Default The 2002 JD Power Results...S2000 ranks 3rd

Well, JD Power released their survey results last Thursday. The IQS or Initial Quality Survey is the survey that the manufacturers find most important because it shows how their quality ranks among the competitors.

BTW S2000 ranked third in the Premium Sports Car Segment right behind the 911 and the Corvette. S2000 had 115PPH (Problems Per 100 Vehicles).

One point Id like to make....I found it very interesting how much GM has shot forward in the initial quality survey. Taking the spot in front of the Accord with the Century and Monte Carlo. Also, 3 of their North American Plants took the top 3 spots making that a total of 5 GM plants in the top 10.

Honda once again is right behind Toyota in almost every segment.

You will find it all here

Lately, the Corvette has scored high in the initial quality survey. However, they don't score high for the later quality survey.

When you start off as far down the list as they were, where else can you go but up?

Any car that has a lot (any at all) problems in the first 90 days of ownership is sorry statement for any car company. This survey doesn't have much meaning to me but it's good to hear GM is improving -- lord knows all the big 3 need to.

Initial quality means nothing; just had my 2000 Pontiac in for $700 worth of repairs to switches and sensors; my wifes 5-year old Accord has never been in for any repairs whatsoever.
GM has simply figured out how to do better on the inital quality surveys; they still build lousy vehicles. Period.

My thoughts also. IQ doesn't correlate with longterm reliabily very well. IQ problems will all be remedied free under warranty. It's the long term problems that kill you monetarily if you hold on to cars like I do. That's one reason why Honda and Toyota are the only vehicles I purchase.
