2002 owners, need your help for reliability
2002 honda S2000 owners only please.
How long have you owned your car.
How many owners have there been.
Just curious how many miles you have on your car, and what problems you've had, if any along the way.
Would you feel comfortable selling your car (pretend please
) to a friend, trusting that the car would last a long time and that you had nothing to hide when you sold it?
Are you stock or modified?
Please rate your reliablity 1-10. 1 being horrible, 10 being perfect, no problems at all
Thanks!

I've heard 100k on an s2000 is like 200k miles on an accord, but you see threads for s2ks over 100k miles a lot on this forum.

You can find multiple threads like this on local forums and I think the s2k talk board.

- My '02 was bought new, I got it when it had less than than 10-miles on it.
- I did the proper engine break in, no hard or high revs until after the 1st 1,000 kilometers.
- I do not drive my car in the snow.
- I have 50,000 miles on it at this point.
- The S is my track car, I estimate it now has slightly more than 4,000 track miles
- I consider my car is essentially stock, others do not, I have added rollbar, x-brace, shock tower brace, muz snorkel, Magnaflow exhaust, Mugen thermostat/fan switch/radiator cap, all other stuff is cosmetic of convenience stuff, suspension is 100% stock
- I do all my own fluid changes and brake work
- My awesome dealer has done everything else and I over maintain my vehicles because of how they are used
- The only things that have gone wrong or needed repair outside of normal maintanence would be the following:

Had mine since new in 02
Now have appx. 27k miles, for the most part has not been driven in the winter.
Had to have drivers side window regulator replaced along with the rear hubs, Also would rate it a solid 9.

I have a 02 with 26k miles on it. I have had it for a year with no problems. it has been relatively stock. i use it for auto-x and I haven't had any problems. i would sell it to a friend and completely trust it. the previous owner didn't drive it very often, I bought it with 19k miles. its now in winter storage and i hope to drive it again in march.
Thanks all. That's very good info!
Who here has a 2002 with the updated banjo bolt?
Triple-H & NNY S2k, you both had to have the rear hubs replaced. NNY S2k, do you track drive your S2k?
I've heard the drivers side window regulator is supposed to be a common one as well.
Anyone have timing chain tensioner go bad yet?
Thanks,

Year 2000, 106k miles on mine.
The car has been a daily driver for its entire life. I am the 3rd owner. Good service records from previous owners, no accidents, only basic maintenance. Bone stock except for clutch/flywheel/pressure plate. It's been parked outside its whole life. It gets driven in snow, rain, sun, all conditions.
The following lists the condition of the vehicle after multiple owners and 106K miles:
- Original top, showing wear, but no rips or tears...plastic window is a little hazy.
- Clutch was starting to feel soft. Redlined daily and still never slipped. Replaced original clutch at 100K.
- No TCT rattle, but I changed the TCT at 100K just because.
- Paint is in terrible condition, lots of rock chips from highway driving. Probably thousands of chips. I have a feeling that Honda paint is just not that durable.
- OEM CD player stopped working at 103K, replaced with aftermarket.
- Top rattles, but works smoothly.
- Windshield is pitted and has one small crack (about the size of a fingernail). Will probably replace this summer.
- Valves need adjusting.
- Original OEM battery was just replaced at 105K. Daily commuting is 40 minutes one way, which could explain the long life of battery.
OEM replaced with wal-mart generic battery.
- Transmission is very smooth. Recently replaced fluid with new formula of Honda MTF. Never grinded once. Only notchy with cold, very very smooth once warmed up.
That's all. Oh yeah, brakes will probably need to be replaced soon. All in all, it's probably one of the more reliable vehicles I've owned.
