Just so I can make sure that I know, are you a quart low when the level on the dipstick is at 'L'? Also, when is the best time to check the oil level? I've never had to pay attention to oil level so much before, and I want to make sure that I do it right!

2750 miles and not even a tiny bit lower than day one. And I drive the heck out of it, redline 1st and 2nd all the time. I like to check in when the engine is cool, but while you are stopped for gas is fine too. If you aren't sure how much to put in, go little by little 'cause you don't want to over fill it.

When you are at the "L" mark, you are one quart low, but don't wait that long to fill it back up. Take it slow when you are topping it off and check it often.

The best time to check the oil level is after the car has set for awhile (20 - 30 minutes). The engine will still be warm, but all of the oil should have drained back into the oil pan by then. If you check it right after shutting off the engine, it will read low and you run the risk of overfilling it. This is why I don't check the oil at the gas station.

You might want to read the FAQ's about this. There is a lot of good information in that forum.

jvils...you are lucky. Mine (MY2001) went through about a quart/1000 miles until I changed the break-in oil.

hmmmmm... i have gone through about 2 1/2 quarts in 4200 miles (mainly highway) in about 2 months and not to mension a whole clutch disk. Just a question is it possible that my 1/4 miles time is affected because of low oil...because my best time was 14.8 and when i i checked my oil this mourning it was at the bottom "X".

Nearly 700 miles. Started off at the 'full' mark, and it has not dropped at all.

Hey Flying Wedge

since you and I have consumed just about the same oil, HOw did you drive yours for the first 600 miles.

I drove mine very mild except once which I revved it to about 7,000 when it had 400 miles on it. Im trying to get a rough idea here, thanks

Well, my oil level dipped to L the last time I filled up since my post. I have 2,800 miles now. I added half a quart and it did raise it back to mid level. I guess I'll put in the other half in just to completely fill her up!

BTW, I kinda doubt that we need to keep it at H at all times. I'm sure we'll be okay as long as the engine oil level is between the H and L... everything in moderation. Not too much and not too little..., right? If it's really THAT critical, then I'm sure Honda engineers would've raised the L up higher...

Well, for my own safeguard i'd like to keep it above the L at least an X up because if you lets say let it down on the L and then u go to the grocery store for 2 minutes but yet encounter a race your oil might come down much lower from accelerating it.
