Default 2002 S gear change issues

Hey guys

Ive just got my new 2002 S2000 GT with 46k on the clock, Its an amazing car, but I have noticed a nasty little click in the gear change before I put it into third, it goes into gear fine after that but ever time I go for 3rd it feels like I haven't pressed the clutch down far enough. I'm not a mechanic and I know very little about the working of an s2k gearbox, has anyone else had a problem like this? the cars still under warranty :-)

Cheers

Jamie

My car was "notchy" shifting into third gear when the engine (i.e., tranny fluid) is cold, then shifts normally after everything has a chance to get warmed up.

If you do not know the service history for your car it might be a good idea change out tranny and rear differential fluids; a change in tranny fluid can make a big difference.

You may wish to post this question in the "Under the Hood" forum and check out the The OIL JOURNALS! Diff, Engine, Tranny fluids thread.

I'm pretty sure what you are referring to is normal. Both of my S2000s did this...I've adjusted my driving style for it.

Jamie,

Have you changed your tranny oil? You should. There are a number of good recommendations for replacement in the oil journals thread in the under the hood forum.

As a new owner of a 4-5 year old car, I recommend replacing all the fluids immediately.

I agree... the S2K takes a little more skill to drive well than most cars; I also noticed 3rd gear "notch" doesn't happen when shifting at higher RPMs.

Changed my tranny fluid last weekend for the first time! WOW what a difference . Mine was just slightly notchy but now is so smooth it shifts better than when it was new . I changed mine to that new Honda improved formula fluid.

My tranny also shifts much better at higher RPMs (>4,000)
