I'd say it is a fair price.

Get a estimated price for scratch repair and cost of different wheels and deduct from 15.5k. Tell seller scratch repair and wheels are reason for your bid.
I agree - check the softtop.
Also spend 150-200 for professional inspection if you get real serious about the car.
It's winter - cars are not selling. Wait him out a while.

I had already offered $14K even, to which I got a big . I think I'll try somewhere between that and the $15.5K the seller asked for and hopefully get in the $14.5-$15K range.
Offer to split the difference, $14750.

it kinda sounds like you are getting emotionally attached to this car which is a bad thing. it has scratches on the body? move on. i would not bother paying anything over 14k for an 02 with scratches and anything imperfect. like i said the price you are willing to pay can score you an 04 or an 05.

I'd probably say it is a pretty good price especially he is including a $2-3k hardtop depending if you buy new or used. Pretty low mileage and are the scratches really that bad where you can negotiate your price. I guess it doesn't hurt but just don't insult the guy as the price is pretty good already. Anyways, good luck with the purchase. Show us some pics.

For how little these cars are worth...looks like I'll be keeping mine as long as I can...even if I end up using it for business!

Got my 02 before summer for 14.5 without hardtop; so this deal sounds really good to me. Then again it is winter as others have mentioned. The deciding factor is: Is this car worth $15,000 to you? Convenience of time and circumstances come into play for this question. If it is, buy it and enjoy!

As "Conedodger" suggested, I offered $14,750. He's chewing on it, but says there's another looker scheduled for 12/20. Someone above suggested I may be becoming too emotionally attached to this car. I admit, partly true. However, the chrome wheels and scratches are too much for me to turn a blind eye, and to panic and raise my offer. If I lose, there'll be others. I'll update you all with the outcome.
