I'd wait until the MY03 comes out, and then get a MY02. You'll save a bundle since dealers want to dump the MY02 inventory.

Many people did that last year. In fact, several members in Boston got new S2Ks for $28,000 (cash price, no trade-in)! I almost bought one of them at that price, but decided against it since I would have to ship it out to CA. I also wanted the glass rear window and other improvements offered on the MY02.

I would go with what Maveric said but that's assuming there will be dealers with many leftover 02 S2000's. Not extremely probable but possible.

The $1500 difference in resale value is accurate.

In addition, if you are financing and NOT leasing, then when you sell the car in the future, your loan balance is also a consideration.

Scenerio:
If you were to buy the 02 today, then you go to sell the 02 in, lets say, exactly 2 years from now - August 2004. Your loan balance, all things being equal, will be approximately $700 - $1000 lower on the 02, because you would have started making payments in Sept 2002. The first payment on an 03 would be in November 2002, based on the idea that the 03's will come out in October some time.

The idea here is that you begin making payments 2 months earlier, on the 02, therefore the loan balance is $700 - $1000 lower, based on a monthly payment of approx $500-600/mo. At approx. 5% interest, approx. $350 -$500 of each payment goes towards principle.

So, at any point in the future when you sell the 02, you will have $700-$1000 more "equity" in the car.

The longer you wait to buy the 02, the better it is to buy an 03.

I would wait for the '03, if you're going to spend around $30,000 what is $500. Once you buy it, it will already be a year old.

Wouldn't they fix that in 2003 models?
