Default 2003 or 2004 which should I get?

hello,

I am about to buy a new car and have been trying to decide what I want. I have finally decided that I want the S2000. Anyway, I went down to the local Honda dealership to see if they had one I could see up close in person. Wow!!!!! I have seen them in passing on the roads before, but this was the first time I ever really got up close to one. I started talking to the salesman and he told me to get in and see what I thought. I sat down in the drivers seat and this big grin came over my face. As the salesman was going on about all the details of the car I was sitting there falling in love, I couldn't stop smiling. I absolutley know now that this the car for me! The car I was looking at was an 03 (sebring silver/black int). I told the guy that I wouldn't pay close to retail for an 03. The car retailed for $34000 and the sales manager quoted me $31280, is this a good deal for a 03? should I order a 04? I have read about the differences but I was hoping for some feedback from folks who have owned both or have ridden in both.

Do some more price comparisons. You could get an '04 for $31280; you should be able to pick up an '03 for much, much less.

Test drive both to see which you'd prefer.

I paid $30, 600 for my '03 in July last year. You're being played. Do NOT respond to that ridiculous offer. It's the middle of the winter, for Pete's sake. The car is a year old! I realize Alabama is warmer in the winter than it is here in Buffalo, but still...

Assuming it's a new car with no (or almost no) miles, I suggest you pay what the car is worth: no more than $29500, probably more like $29000. I'd offer $28000 or $28500 and agree on $29000 at the most. There's a reason it's still unsold. The dealer will want to get it off his books because the car is costing him interest on the loan he has for his inventory. Do NOT agree to his price! Stick to your offer and try not to let yourself be swayed by how much you love the car. You've probably already led the salesman believe you'll pay more than the car is worth, but you can show him he's wrong if you act cold and determined about it. If he won't budge enough, walk away. There are other '03 cars to be had out there! Don't worry. Go slow. You'll do fine if you keep your head about you.

Thanks guys,

I am supposed to test drive the car next week. I guess it had been in the show room for a while, the battery was dead. If they wont come off that price should I try to order an 04 for or try another dealership?

Try another dealer or, if you decide on an '04, give Ganley a call. See their ad on the homepage of s2ki for more info on their offer.

I'm in about the same boat as you. I finally decided that I wanted an S2000, and was surprised to find an '03 at the local dealer (And its yellow!). Right now I've got him at invoice(29700 or so) and a fair price on my trade. In another thread, a lot of people told me I could do A LOT better. How much less can a dealer go?

Also, I live in AZ, and the time to own a convertible is RIGHT NOW. Its only going to get hotter.

So my question is, what is a good price on this car?

Thanks
Jesse

obviously do your price comparisons, then do your test drive comparisons, then look at the interiors, etc.
Im sure '03's would be a cheaper buy, but do what feels right to you

I just picked up a brand new 04 Silverstone w/red-blk for $29,750. I think you would be crazy to pay more than that for a BRAND NEW 2004.

Do as others have already suggested and do a bit more shopping around. If you really want to buy form this particluar dealer you should let them know that you can buy the car from another dealer for this amount and you'll be happy to do the deal with them for the same amount.

You can add some nice mods for the price difference between what they're telling you and what you can buy the car for...

Just a thought!
