Just wondering if anyone with a MY04 has gotten a 4.57 FD or any gear for that matter. If not, is anyone planning to get gears for their MY04 in the future?

I know that someone does, becasue we shipped them. I don't think they are on the board though. Their shop order them.

probably not as significant a gain for the '04 vs. the '03 due to gearing differences.

Thanks guys was just curious.

Anyway, if any MY04 owners are curious as to what kinda changes to expect here's an app that I revamped for MY04's.

Also, take a look at this thread, some interesting info on the last post.

actually, 4.57 gears are much more extreme for the 2004 than 2000-2003. With the shorter secondary gear and the lower redline, it is my opinion that 4.57's are too extreme for the 04's. Check the above mentioned thread- I'm the one who wrote the last post on page 2.

Any year S2000 will get 11.5% change. It is simple math.

Personally I think the MY04 would get the best of both worlds with the 4.57. In first and second, it would be like 4.77. Third and fourth 4.57 and 5th and 6th 4.44.

If I have to do any work on my tranny, I will be replaing it with MY04 spec gearing.

Also "too Extreme" is a point of view. There are a number of board members that like to see 5.10 in their cars.

My thoughts exactly.

Can this be done? For example, the 6th gear on the 04 is a "lower" ratio than the 00-03s - but can it substitute directly in place of the old 6th gear?

No actually w/ the 4.57's on an 04, you will be finishing 2nd gear at 51 mph...a 4.77 equpited 00-03 will finish at 58 mph...that's a pretty big difference. What you guys dont realize is that the higher the redline, the most agressive you can get with the gearing. So really if you get the 4.57's, it will be like having 5.0+'s for the first 4 gears or so, then falling to having a 4.8 or so for 6th.

True some people have gotten 5.10's on 00-03's...but honestly, how many people who daily drive these cars want 5.10's??? If you are that hardcore, you should go ahead and order a new elise and mod that.

Also, think about the fact that with 4.57, the 2.2L with the longer stroke will be doing a lot more work when highway cruising. The pistons of a 2.2L with 4.30's are moving at the same rate as a 2.0 with 4.77's. It may not seem like much, but moving 500 more feet per minute for hours at a time, will take its toll eventually.

Hey, if youre 04 is track only, go for it. But then again, its for track only, then why get a 04; a good condition 00-03 with suspension work, rear gears, and roll cage w/ a hardtop would have suited you much better for the price.
