Default 2004 Mugen exhaust - any difference in noise?

I know that the revised exhaust for the MY04 has only been on the market for a few weeks and that they are apparently few and far between for the moment, but I was wondering whether anyone has had one fitted and whether they were in a position to compare whether there has been any chance in the noise output for the 04 compared with the 99-03 exhaust.

(From the pics on the King Motorsports website, the cans on the 04 look different to the pics I've seen of the 99-03 exhausts, so I was wondering whether the changes are superficial ones or whether there has been any change to the actual design of the exhaust itself which might change e.g. noise levels)

A Mugen group buy is being organised through the UK board's For Sale and Wanted forum and I was hoping to get some feedback from our colonial cousins before I commit myself to buying

I don't know about the 04 Mugen exhaust, Fom looking at the pics I wouldn't expect a big sound difference from the previous Mugen exhaust. The noise level was my biggest factor in selecting an exhaust. I didn't want anything that droned badly, especially at highway speeds. The Mugen is just a bit louder than stock.

As a side note on fitment. I emailed King and they told me the '04 exhaust would not fit '00-'03 cars. Duc from Spugen has fit his exhausts on an '04. The hangars are supposedly in a different place, but I have seen an '04 car with the older Mugen exhaust. So, I think the '04 exhaust will fit the older cars. And I think it sounds the same and performs the same.

It may be made to fit, but both Comptech and King have told me the hangers are different on the MY04 - the price is the same, why would they make it up?

i have a pre-'04 on my 2004.....it fits fine.

yes the hangers are different, but you just have to fiddle with them.

2004 hangers are triangular - 3 fitment/attachment points.

i'll take a pic in the morning....

It's still JASMA approved AFAIK, which limits how loud it will be if it's any louder than the pre-MY2004 one.

Right, so it would seem that it's unlikely to be much louder in terms of pure dB output levels.

Can anyone comment on whether the tone "type" of sound has changed very much, or whether it's still similar to/the same as the 99-03?

I just ordered a Mugen - it is due in April.

I have no comparative info, but the salesman that sold me my car is very knowledgeable about the S2000, and he says it has a distinctive note, different from previous years. If so, then one would expect that ther Mugen'd S2K would have a different tone as well.
