Default 2004 S2K OEM Wheels Peeling

So winter is finally over in Maryland which means the S2000 can come out of the garage.
Just took it out yesterday and noticed that 3 out of the 4 wheels have some amount of wheel peeling. It was not like this last year when it went into storage and it never saw winter so I have no idea how this happened. It was even covered in the garage.
Has anyone experienced this? If so, was there a particular cause or is it just old age?

Also, does anyone have any idea on what the costs should/would be to fix these?

Humidity and road salt probably.

My wife's winter wheels peeled while sitting in the garage all summer. I don't think I ever cleaned the salt from them.

This winter, it looked like they were recovering from sunburn.

oh yeah 100% salt and weather related.

Age maybe but I bought a set of oem a 2004 Ap2V1 wheels last summer and they are mint condition. Storing them properly is everything. Same goes for tires.

My oem civic Si rims are flaking and and chipping like crazy. they were driven all year round in Toronto so the roads just ate them away.

My OEM AP1 wheels have a few spots exactly like that.

I looked into getting them completely refinished and clear-coated but it was too expensive. I have decided to save that $$ and put it towards a set of the forged JDM wheels one day

I pay $50 a wheel for curb rash repair.
The guy does all his work in a mobile vehicle. Does excellent work.
You can ask around at dealerships who sell a lot of used vehicles to see who they use for repairing curb rash on trade in vehicles and go direct to them, or just search for mobile wheel repair companies.
I wouldn't pay more than $75 per wheel for that repair. It's very minor.

Ya I could understand the salt and weather having an affect if this car ever saw winter.
But the fact that this car was garaged in October and came out in March is really irritating. Salt has never been on these rims

Where are you located? And have you had any issues of it re-peeling / is it noticeable?

If its cheap, I'll have them touched up. However, I eventually wanted to put nicer rims on anyway, just really wasn't wanting to put that money there now.

What was the cost if you don't mind me asking?

Hate to break it to you, but those have been refinished at some point. The OEM AP2 wheel has a machined face, those are all painted.

In my area (Iowa), it runs $60 a wheel to have repairs done (like road rash) and then a full powder coat. Prices will vary. It would be a bit more if you wanted to have them powder coated and then the faces machined and clear coated.

I wouldn't powder coat them.

Something got on them to cause pitting. Or the clear coat is faulty.

If you do fix them, make sure they remove all the dead clear coat or it will bubble up again.
