Default 2005 S2K Shifting

Just bought a 2005 S2000 and I am installing a shift light tomarrow. Those of you that use shift lights on your 2005's where are you setting them. I have bounced off the rev limiter once already and the car is only 4 days old but I already have 500 miles in the sun on it.

Thanks
Joe

Depends how fast you shift...if you are fast then set it 500 before the limiter. These cars probably don't need a shift light however as they are very predictable as to when they are nearing the limit of the rev range, you can feel it pretty well.

I was not looking at the tach when I hit the rev limiter. Have you hit the rev limiter and noticed aprox. what RPM you were at? If so I will try 500 below that.

But for a slightly different reason. Our tachs flash at the top of the rev band. If you are driving in an exuberant fashion, you will not tend to look at lights or the tach. You might be better off getting Modifry's shift beeper (sold via GoFastLabs) as an audible indicator is more likely to get your attention.

After buying a 170 dollar Stewart warner tach and finding this sight I read a post regarding that product. It sounds great...how loud is it, I will admit to having the radio on the volume level 30-40 while drivng and might not hear it Can you hear it over the 8k+ rev and wind?

I can hear my redline beeper while going 100+ at 9K rpm with the top down (and wearing a helmet, as I always do on the track).

I use Modifry's shift buzzer. I've set it for 8900 rpm on my '03. It is set for 200 rpm intervals. (8500/8700/8900) Works like a charm! If I shift after the third beep, timing is such that I can complete the shift before the limiter with no problem. I initially set it to 100 rpm intervals and found that it was too difficult to predict the 3rd beep and stay off the limiter.

My buzzer is mounted on top of the steering column in front of the gage cluster.
I took a tip from Tedster. I have it mounted behind the dash next to the steering column. But I left enough wire that on a track day I move it to a second piece of velcro, on the underside of the HVAC controls.
