2006 S2000 now broken in
Hi,
Ive just reached 600 miles in my 2006 S2k. I have started to Vtec it hiting about 7k rpm.....Ive driven a MY00 and MY05 S2k and Vtec surge is a lot more noticeable and more extreme then the 06. However both of these cars were very well run in (several thousand miles).
Is this difference in Vtec surge due to the fact the car is so new and Vtec hardly been engaged?
Thanks for the help!

i can only speak for my 2004, i have driven a 2001 and 2003 also, there is a period of time that the car engine needs to break in...mine took about 10,000 miles, in that the mpg and performance did improve some about that time...also...the surge is slightly less coming on at 5800 rather than 6800 odd rpm, and it depends on the pressure on the gas pedal (this may differ with tbw which you have), how warmed up the car is and how much you have been on it, the computer seems to remember how you want to drive based on how you drive.
i sure hope your car is as much fun as mine is.

i thought the cam chanegover point was smooth out with the F22 compared to the F20. also, it could be the drive by wire has something to do with difference in surge or the fact you haven't hit vtec in awhile.

I have an '06.
I've notice a significant difference in VTEC from what fuel I use.
If I run Chevron I can hardly tell it crosses the 6k boundary, though the engine feels very smooth, consistant, and strong at all rpm.
If I run Shell, even though it is already pulling hard at high 5k, it explodes into VTEC at 6k - unmistakable feeling of surging forward/being press into your seat especially in 2nd gear, however, the car is just a bit more jerky or slightly hesitant at low rpm.
I find the VTEC power of the Shell perferable over the smoothness of the Chevron.
I'm in California. Both the Chevron & Shell I've tried are 91 octane (that's the highest we can get here in most of CA). I've also run through several tanks in a row to be sure.
I suspect that the Shell is just slightly faster burning, which is good for power, but can cause occasional knock, which results in the less smooth feeling. I also suspect that this engine is sensitive to minor changes in fuel, and has an aggressive knock sensor.
