Default 2006 S2000 Question

Just purchased a new S2000 several weeks ago and had the dealer install the security system last Thursday (I know a risk, especially since I put one in my 2002 and know how to do it, however part of the deal). Anyway I picked it up and went to installed my new floor mats this weekend - I then noticed that there were no bolt covers on the drivers side like the passenger side had.

Now I have to admit I did not pay much attention on whether there were some there when I bought the car or not. Reading some forums and having also just purchased a set of the McGard bolts it lead me to believe that there were covers for both sides. I called the dealer on it today and they side that the covers only came on the passenger side (or at least that is all they had part number listings for). I have not had a chance to swing by a Honda Dealer and see if there are covers on a new one or not. Wanted to know if there were any 2006 owners out there who could take a look and respond. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, that strange. Can you post a pic as I'd like to see what they look like. I hope your dealer didn't lose them and just said it doesn't come like that. I don't see a reason to cover the bolts on the passenger side and not the driver's side.

Cyclon36,

My thoughts exactly and reason for my skepticism. Don't have my camera handy right now but will try and get a shot tomorrow and post. They are fairly simple - kind of a clam shell piece with a area that covers the bolt head and then has two rails/arms that slide back on the seat rail (plastic tabs on the inside of the arms snap in behind the rail mount at the front. Anyway if I don't get an answer from a 2006 owner, will attempt to drive to a dealer and look at a new one.

Now that I think about it I believe the covers might be interchangeable with either seat. Honda dealer only checked his parts computer so may not have the straight scop.

My '06 has the little plastic covers only on the passenger seat rails. It's my understanding that '06 is the only year with these.

Prepare for a deluge of "Honda is ruining the S by adding weight/cost/frills and ruining the sports car experience" posts to follow

dryfly, roger that. I did go back and review some of the literature I have on this --- if I only read it right the first time I wouldn't have had to post this topic. Second time I around I picked up on that the covers are only applicable to the passenger side. Still kind of odd, why only the passenger side and not the drivers - oh that's right weight savings - ha, ha. Looks like you could order a set of passenger side and they would work for the drivers side. However, with all the floor pan differences from driver side to passenger side, I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it.

My 06 only has them on the passenger side. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they are there to provide some protection to the disable mechanism for the passenger air bag. I took mine off and noticed that part of that system is mounted pretty close to the front of the seat rail. I suppose Honda thought there was a risk of it getting accidently kicked by the passenger in the seat.

TGO, I went through the same thing as you. Installed the locks, noticed the caps on passenger side only, went to dealer, and checked with parts department. I also went back to dealer, and checked a couple of other 06's. They all have the covers on the passenger side only. My conclusion is. The heads of the small bolts that hold the airbag sensing device on the rails, stick out of the side of the seat rail. If a person not familiar with the seats were to put they're hands down the side of the seat to try, and make a seat adjustment, it is possible they could pinch they're fingers. My guess is, Honda put the covers on for liability reasons. It's also possible that the air bag sensing device is very sensitive, and any little thing can knock it out of calibration. Like something dropping down the side of the seat, and hitting the heads of those bolts. Either way for cosmetic reasons they could have put them on both sides. I guess in this day, and age any where you can cut cost, you do it to stay competitive. Of course this is just my take on the situation. I don't have anything to back this up. So to answer your question, there's nothing missing on your car.
