These are SALES numbers, not PRODUCTION numbers. So far in 2008, cumulate sales of S2000s are 1,719 units versus 2,402 in 2007 and 3,612 in 2006. As the original poster surmised, maybe dealers are also contributing to the sales decline spiral by not having units readily available for sale. Also, the CR was suppose to reverse the sales decline this year.

They are making far fewer in 08 compared to past years. In 05, I bought an S2K in the summer and the VIN was in the low 7000 range. My new 08 has a VIN in the low 2000 range. Both were produced in the same month in each of those years. So in terms of the production run for each model year, I'd say 2008 is less than a third of 2005. Of course, I am referring to US numbers only.

3 at the one here in town - 2 CR's (one is ugly yellow with Lambo doors) - probably will never sell.

 

2 CRs in smurf blue, 1 in BB, and 4 s2000 on the lot. Most I've ever seen, generally they have 1 or 2.

 

Maybe now that truck and SUV sales are declining a few of the idiots that would normally buy Hummers will get S' instead!

 

I've noticed it too. The dealers around here don't have as many. The dealer I bought from has only been carrying a CR in inventory for the past two months when it had at least 4 07's sitting on the lot last year.
