What is the decision making process for which 12 cars make it? (not for my car but there are quite a few on here that I wouldn't mind seeing in a calendar)

Lots goes into it, including balancing different model years, colors, angles, and backgrounds. Every year lots of great photos are submitted that are almost identical, like from 1/4 angle shots, so it comes down to what works best for the season, what is different, and what offers the most variety for the 13 shots that finally are selected.

Also, since photos have to be emailed, many people who post shots online never follow through with an actual submission, so they never make it in.

You can always submit it. The general idea though is no snapshots with hoses, sponges, etc lying about.
