Default 2nd Gear Grind in new '02 (TSB 55 ?)

Got my '02 model for two weeks now and it happened twice or three times that when accelerating hard and shifting from 1st to 2nd with high revs (7-8k), I got a very bad grind from the tranny. I immediately let go and try again at lower revs (~2k) and it works fine.
I read the TSB-55 where they explain how to fix this behaviour but the TSB was from October 2000 !?!

Anyone had simmilar problems ? What would you suggest ?

Try the following and let us know if it helps.
This tranny has very "narrow" gates. When shifting 1-2, keep the stick pressed firmly to the left against the "rail" the whole time you pull down. Make sure your clutch is fully to the floor at the moment the stick hits the syncros (that's the first bit of resistance you'll feel just prior to it going into second. Use only enough force so that the "point of resistance" can be felt. After that point has been reached, use all the force you like to pop it into gear. You don't have to hesitate as such but try to avoid "forcing" it past the resistance point.

I haven't noticed any grinding, but likeAVXs2000, I'm still in the break-in period, so I haven't revved mine above 5500 RPMs.

neuweiler, since you've only had your 2002 for two weeks now, I hope that you have more than 600 miles on the car. If not, then you shouldn't be revving up to 7000 RPMs.

I used to have that problem in my 2000, but with the 2002 the tranny is much smoother, just make sure you are taking the time to get it solidly into gear before you really let up on the clutch, after concentrating on taking the extra half a second to make sure it was in gear everything was fine, but it is kinda tricky when you are just starting out on the short shifter like this one.

I've gotten that 2nd gear grind a few times now in my '02. Probably about 3 times...had the car for a couple months with almost 2,000 miles on it. One thing I noticed, I moved my seat up a little closer than where I usually sit, and so far, I haven't had the 2nd gear grind. Sitting closer makes me push the clutch down all the way to the floor. Don't know if that helps, but so far so good for me.

I've grinded second twice in my 02' but that is driver error since I didn't fully have it in second and then tried to insert it.....grind..... Like xviper says, you have to find the precise gates. If you do, I bet you wouldn't get the grind anymore. Also, make sure to have the clutch fully depressed.

Yes, I must admit, I VTECed her 2-3 times before 1000km. That's because what the salesman told me about breaking her in: "nothing special, just drive her normally". Unfortunately we had a different understanding of "normal" (probably because I was reading this forum for too long before I got her ) But they were only short bursts so local overheating and oil glacing shouldn't have occurred (I was ripping my hair in the evening when I read the manual... ). No more VTECing and grinding after that anymore. But I wonder what happens after 1000km.

Back to topic:
I think it's most likely that I didn't depress the clutch completely - also because my seat was not correctly aligned. So as for HondaS2K8888 this might have been the cause.

Xviper: I will try to adopt my driving style to your technique. But doesn't that slow down your shifting significantly - I mean if you're racing someone ?

Thanks a lot for your help !
