It's part of the car's unique charm. Seriously, you really have to be gentle until it's warmed-up.

honestly it does it even when its well warm ( i never even go past 3k), only time it doesnt do it is when i drive very "spirtedly" hiting gears and downshifting. it then goes away. but daily driving it goes on all day long..

I'm just wondering how many of you guys who have this type of shifting sensation are "ramming" your shifts when the car is cold and is being driven more sedately during the warm up? If you are shifting in the same manner as you do all the time (like when you are warmed up and you are driving in a more spirited manner), then it comes as no surprise to me that you getting the sort of shifting sensation you are describing. Each type of driving scenario requires a different shifting technique.
First, you shouldn't be driving the car hard until it's warmed up. Next, if you aren't driving the car in a spirited manner, then your shifting should not be in the same sort of cadence or techique when you are driving more sedately. This is simply knowledgeable driving style and not necessarily to do with any deficiencies in the car.

I think there's a general consensus that the car shifts better when you drive it faster. Everything seems to fall into place better, almost as if the car WANTS you to go faster .

I just got my 05 a few weeks ago and it does the same thing. As long as you shift above 3000 rpm you'll be alright. I'm guessing it must have something to do with the synchros meshing at the right rpm.

i agree, i notice when all is well warmed up shifting at a gentle rate i get the grind but when i shift quickly into 2nd while driving normal pace theres usually no grind/roughness.

Hmmm, I really don't know what else I can say to help you guys out. I have a model year 2000, supposedly one of the worst 1-2 shifts ever and I've never encountered anything that i would call odd with the shifting of my car. I've also driven other model years of AP1 and although some of those owners have indicated they think their cars are "notchy", I couldn't agree. Their cars shifted just like mine - absolutely fine. Admittedly, I have never driven an AP2 yet, so I can't say if the shifting feel is any different with those cars.
I've owned other 6 speed manual cars (big engines, big HP, big torque, RWD) and all of them shifted like crap compared to the S2000.
