2nd Transmission problem;sign of things to come ?
Yes, my car is in for a second transmission fix.
The first one was to cure the 1-2 grind and now it is a totally different problem for which the symptoms are :
*very difficult downshifting from 2nd to 1st.
*get a resistance(as if the brakes were on) when backing up.
*get a "thump" when letting out the clutch in neutral, with the motor running.
Apparently the dealer has seen this problem before........
Has anyone else had a similar problem ?

Yes, I've had difficulty downshifting from 2nd to 1st just in the past 1000 miles or so. It's VERY tight sometimes, almost like having a lockout spring there, even when sitting still or rolling slowly. I've had the status quo grind from 1st to 2nd about four times now at high RPM (embarassing, isn't it?), and I've also had a problem going from 2nd to 3rd a few times now. Sometimes 3rd either won't engage or is very tight, and a couple of times it has also had the grind like 2nd gear. Scary.
None of the other gears have any problems at all including reverse, and I should also note that I push my car to 9K pretty regularly (ah, the joys of living in the wide-open countryside of north Alabama). I'm just waiting to get a few more miles on the tranny before I have it taken apart to see if anything else breaks or gives me problems between now and then. I wouldn't want the box opened up more than once by the dealer (too much room for error), so my philosophy is to endure the problems for a while, then fix'em all at once.
No clutch problems or strange differential noises yet (whew), but I never dump the clutch from a standing start either. I have about 6500 miles on her since 8/31/00 (just over 2 months).

No extended high speed runs on the street for me but some mild track use however.
BTW I couldn't get from 2nd to 1st even with heel & toeing !
...getting the car back this afternoon with a new clutch which I have to pay for, but for which I shall take Honda to small claims court to get back....
I'll keep the board posted.
