Hey Rick,
You are right. I discovered that the 3M solution could not withstand the stress on my drive from Atlanta to Cleveland. I was driving through the mountians of Tenn at 115mph when the 3M bumbers let loose.
I will try your superglue solution. Do you know if this superglue will melt the plastic of the roll bars?

Yeah, my bumpers blew off too. In the brief day they were on, the mechanism would occasionally rattle against the bumpers so I wondered if I should set them back a bit farther on the roll hoops and use some better adhesive. Too much farther back however and the screen will be noticably reclining. But then a different issue came up...

I never minded the oscillation of the windscreen but it started to sqeak a bit which is why I tried the bumpers. The right side ear had come loose so I took the mechanism apart to reglue it yesterday and to my suprise, I discovered the windscreen had broken at the site of the right screw attachment point! That was what was causing the squeaking and had made the screen unstable within the mechanism and allowed it to flex further forward.

I notice also that Rick's screen seems a few mils thinner than the stock screen - is that correct? That leaves a tiny bit of play for the screen within the mechanism. I can't speculate if that would cause stress on the screen at the attachment points within the mechanism.

Rick, I didn't think you would mind me posting this given how admirably you've handled feedback on your products in this forum and your reputation for customer service and innovation. Anyway, I've been very happy with the performance of my windscreen this summer up to this point.

Yeah, Rick, I found out about the long, high speed trip problem this last week. Drove up to Medford, OR for an interview and about half way up one went flying away. The other managed to slide itself up over the top of the ear. So, of course, the glue on one side (the one I hadn't redone with Goldberg's, of course) came lose and I've got a cracked windscreen right around the mounting hole. But it doesn't seem to be inclined to spread or cause a problem, so I'm OK with that. I'm glad to hear of your solution on the bumpers -- I've still got a couple left, so I'll try regluing with them and put some Goldberg's on that one side. The other still looks solid.

Charlie,

If your screen is cracked, I'd like to replace it, without charge. Please email me, hesel@artsci.com.

I'd also recommend using the the Goldberg's on both bumpers as soon as you get a chance.

It isn't really necessary, Rick, but you have email.

What are the 3M bumpers? What about the plastic lens shield for the headlights that have 3M backing?

The bumpers are a mod we supply for the windscreen to reduce oscillation at high speed. They have nothing to do whatsover with the headlamp cover material that 3M makes.

I tested the superglue bumper solution at speeds up to 125 mph on the way to and from North Carolina and it works great. If you haven't done it, do it ASAP.

Do you think the Police will consider this a good excuse?
