Default 4.44 gears or 4.77??? CAN'T DECIDE WHICH ONE....

My mechanic says the 4.77 gears don't stay in gear too long and have to shift really early, so he said go with the 4.44's I'm lookin to throw a blower on the ride also, so was wondering which would go best with it???

It's a decision you have to make. I would suggest looking at top speed in gear and see how it fits your driving/racing needs. You can't go wrong with the 4.44s and Rick's 4.57s should be another consideration. You are not considering the 4.9s or 5.1s?

Rick's doesn't make 4.44's anymore. 4.57's are supposed to be out this month and 4.77' are out already. I believe ricks makes 4.3's though.

i have so many questions... maybe someone could educate me on gearing. i don't know much about the grear ratios of the s2k. what are the original ratios for the s2k? how did they change in the MY04 vs. the other s2ks? what is wrong with the original settings that so many on this thread want to change them out? what are they looking for? which gears bring the shifts down in the rpms range and which ones bring them hgher?

maybe your mechanic doesn't drive your s2k like is was meant to be driven... to 9k? could that be why he says it doesn't stay in gear too long? if you shift at 8-9k i'd say the car stays in gear longer than anything else on the road? no?

IMO Rick's new 4.57 gears are the best all rounders.

yep. there's a lot of discussion on it. i personally went 4.77, not because i plan to race, but cuz i don't mind the extra shifting and higher RPMs on the highway (which i don't do much driving on anyway).

i originally intended to do the 4.57 until i did some more reading on the subject. search for more info here on it, and all your questions will be answered.
