4.56 gears. Question.
for those with 4.56s and/or 4.57s...how much do these lower your mpg?
Do they decrease your topspeed?
Are they eventually bad for the engine since it'll be 1k or so over the usual revs?

haven't noticed any significant change in mpg.
i honestly haven't tested the top-speed (does it matter?).
as for being bad for the engine, just shift to the next higher gear quicker and sixth gear isn't a problem cruising on the hwy.
get the 4.56 since they supposedly whine less than the 4.57.
it is a noticeable change when you get these installed.
i got my from ricks2k.com and the diff from hardtopguy.com (support the board sponsors

gas milage is negligable.
Yes they decrease your top speed (to approx. 155mph, don't ask how I know) but as if anyone would, under normal circumstances, do that.
Is it bad on the engine...no, going by that mindset, shifting "late" would cause increased engine wear and who knows what redlining the car would do. Get my point?

um top speed for a stock geared s2000 is about 145, i dont know where you got 155 from, especially for a geared car, but if i recall correctly i think the 4.56 gears reduce your top speed to about 125-130, the 4.44's could still go up to 145, and the 4.77s will reduce it to about 115-120.
there was a comparison thread on here that thoroughly compared each but i cant find it.
and i think the s2000 is drag limited to about 177mph so it cant go over that unless you have some aerodynamics.

I've got 4.56 gears. I drive the exact same route to and from work every day. Due to traffic, my average speed from week to week is the same. I'm one of those anal folks who calculates mpg with each topped off tank. I found my mpg dropped from averaging 24mpg city to 21mpg city.
I've also taken several long highway trips since getting gears in April 07 and I'm the type who just sets my cruise at 80mph and forgets it. Prior to gears, my highway milage was a consistantly 31mpg. After gears my highway mpg has dropped to 26mpg.
Given a 4.56 gear, the maximum potential top speed of an ap1 does drop from 166mph to 149mph. Maximum potential top speed of an ap2 drops from 151mph to 136mph. Stock s2ks are normally aerodynamically limited to about 150mph, modification with more hp can lead to higher top speeds upto the maximum gear top speed.

do you know what an AP2 would top out at with the hondata reflash? (8500 redline)

I have a couple questions for you guys please. I'd like to have a gear that Let me drop some rpm while I'm on the freeway (I think taller gear). Instead of 65 mph at 3500, how about at say 2500? I'm coming over from motorcycles so I don't much about these cars at all. Any input is appreciated. Thank you.

tracy sports does offer a 3.909 final gear which is available through bulletproofautomotive.com (board sponsor).
