4.57 gear parts needed, and quick install
hi guys im going to get my 4.57r gears installed in my my00.
just a few q's
1. i can get a second hand diff off a 2004 model covered 16k miles - will that fit my my00?
2. what is the correct backlash for my shim?, i know it NOT .008.
3. What parts do i need to order off honda? - i know ricks install kit doesnt include the correct spacer
what bits do i need? but what about the rings etc? . Can i have a list of everything i need.
4. break in period, is it stop start or can i drive for 90 miles and stop etc?
So far, i have the gears and a shim, yellow jcket and a diff coming.
thanks.

"Just a few"?
You're asking "just about" all there is to know about installing gears.
1 - AP2 diffs are no bolt-on. IIRC the prop shaft companion flange is different.
Change your "new" AP2 diff to on the AP1 companion flange IMO.
2 - Correct backlash is provided by manufacturer of the gear set.
The same goes for pinion depth a.k.a checking distance.
Both are engraved on the gears.
3 - Get yourself a service manual
& Ricmond gear install procedure (online)
The install itself provides data for shims, it can't be predicted.
(Wel.. it kinda is possible to measure it all up. Hard to explain)
Rick's install kit does include bearings as far as I remember.
4 - Follow the manufacturers (or Emil's
) break-in procedure.
Succes!
