Default 4.57 gears installed!

I got the 4.57 richmond gear installed and WOW. 2nd gear feels like 1st gear used to be. it's very responsive and much quicker. it's an amazing bang for the buck mod. I also got the comptech diff installed right away too.

I can't wait to put some miles on and break them in. there is some whine, but it's not overbearing IMO. My invidia exhaust is still louder. This mod is awesome and so far it's made me grin as though it was my first day driving the S.

Welcome to the club. I got my installed two weeks ago and YA HOOO. Another guy with a Comptech SC in a 2003 drove mine and was commenting that maybe he should just get a new S and put the gears in.

I noticed gear whine starts about 33mph, gets loudest about 45mph and then gets quieter at higher speeds. nothing unbearable but it's there. my invidia is still louder. lol.

is this about what you guys get for gear whine?

A little whine? Mine are like nails on a chalkboard. I can't stand driving my car top up at more than 30 MPH without earplugs. If I drive over 100MPH oil spits out the pinion oil seal on to the exhaust (if you know what diff oil smells like you can imagine the reek).

I've had them installed 3 times -- the first gear set the installer screwed up and the second installed and then reinstalled again by 2 different shops with the exact same results. What does it sound like? It sounds like reverse only louder and at a pitch level that makes you want to blow your brains out to make it stop.

In the past 12 months I've maybe put 5K miles on my car and I don't even bother going to the track anymore as I can't stand to be in my car for more than 15 minutes at a time. It physically gives me a headache and want to puke. My 4.57 gears are the super weapon the DoD has been looking for all these years. If they had my car in Cuba they could use it as a torture chamber. We would have caught Bin Laden already as nobody could possibly withstand the noise for long without protection.

The stereo is useless. I can't use a cell phone. Passengers don't complain because nobody will ride with me anyway. My wife considers it a hardship to drive my car so we fight over hers. I need to roll down the windows if the top is up to keep the sound from reverbing around inside or better yet always drive top down to make even partially tollerable. Rain? forget it, I stay home or drive my wifes car. Many people have driven my car and they laugh when I hand them a bag of foam earplugs. They always come back with a set in their ears.

Yes I love the extra oomph I get. Spinning the wheels on a 2-3 upchange is nice. However if I could turn back time I'd still have my 4.10s or maybe Mazdaspeed 4.44s instead. Mine have been a nightmare from day one. I'm not sure it will even be the same again.

No single thing has brought down my enthusiasm for my car quite so much. Not my best mod...

Now all I need to do is pull my diff for the sixth time and pay someone another $200 to put my old gears back in. I'm so sour on the whole thing I don't think the problems will end there tho and I'm getting really bored with it. I've pulled more S2000 diffs in the last year than most dealers ever have.

I hope you like yours more than I like mine.

would you like a little cheese with your gear wine sorry I just could not help my self Perhaps the gears them selves are bad. It should not be any thing like you describe, not at all something is very wrong.

gear whine only at 50mph in 4th gear and again at 110 mph in 6th gear. otherwise, only subtle increase in engine noise at other speeds and gears.

yeah i dont get gear whine anything like you do cthree. sounds like your first installer F'ed it up enough that no amount of change at this point is going to fix the gear whine since they already have a wear pattern in them.

that sucks.
