Default 400lb limit?

I've seen in a few threads that there is a 400lb cargo (including driver and passenger) weight limit for the S2000. Now, I am 6'1" and weigh about 200lbs. I have friends that are of similar size. So, with that in mind, can I not have us both in the car and some stuff in the trunk? What happens when you surpass the 400 mark? Are they just not wanting you to load the car to the hilt, so they put a weight restriction? Please enlighten me!

yep 400lbs you and your stuff. I don't think anyone over 250lbs could fit the seats. Overloading the car will change its handling and stablity. Just adding 50lbs or so of audio stuff in my trunk i can feel the change in handling.

I think you and someone your size plus a full trunk would be ok.

As it was said, larger people really can not fit in the car so the weight limit is usually not a problem. I remeber my subs in my delsol made a world of diiference (handling and speed). Mike

Yes you are correct, the newer Corvettes (C5s) have the same weight limit.

Consumer Reports lists the load capacities of most autos. S2000 is listed at 400 lbs. Miata at 340!
The cars are tested to significantly over capacity. I wouldn't worry about going over this number (well, maybe worry if a 1000 lbs over )

Hmmm, I feel the need to say that the opinion expressed above is mine, and not the automotive company I work for!

I don't seem to be a bad fit at 240, so I guess I have to choose my passengers carefully. What my car doesn't know doesn't seem to hurt it though. Have auto-crossed with a 350 lb passenger and did ok. It is like age, just a number.
