Default 600 Miles in two days, now I can rest...

I just picked up a leftover 01 spa yellow two days ago. Paid $2k under sticker as well! I must say, those first 600 miles were rough. My impressions and experiences from the first 600 miles.

-50 Miles: The car is not as loud as I thought it would be. Top up or top down, it's very bearable. Honda did a good job routing wind noise. Fart Pipped Honda civic runs up on my arse, trying to get me to run.. I change CDs...

-100 miles: This car handles better than I thought it would! I test drove two before my purchase, one in July, and a used one before I picked up my new one. I wasn't converted in July, seemed to handle slower than a Miata. The shocks felt soft. Even the used one I drove on the day of the purchase felt soft. Or maybe it was the PSI of the tires. Don't know, but after taking mine to the "s2000 perfect" Kentucky backroads, it's prety obvious that there had to be something wrong with those two cars. This thing RAILS. Granted, the miata has more quickness at low speeds (say below 20 mph), the s2000 has a quickness, precision, and grip at all speeds above 20mph. I am tempted to say that this is more fun than running my sportbike on these backroads just because it's so easy.. Old Eclipse tries to get me to run, I again, change CDs...

-200 Miles: Still no Vtec, torque on the highway is actually impressive even in sixth gear. Old Acura integra tries to get me to race... TWICE... Ran that engine for all it had. SUV driver behind him yells out "That impressed you, HUH?"

-300 Miles: Stereo SUCKS... I had a full system upgrade (Sony ES, Boston Acoustics pro speakers, JL audio subs, and some amps) in my last car (prelude) and this thing is getting annoying. I do NOT want to modify the stero like the prelude, but I do want to get some drop in replacement speakers. Polk was suggested as good non amped drop ins. I ordered Rick's center consold, and AEM intake... V6 camaro wants some... I play with the KPH-MPH display...

-400 Miles: I work as a contractor at a Ford plant. We had a fire drill that day and lo and behold the Union monkies were huddled around the "yeller honduh" with temp tags. A cup with a message "Thanks for your support" was left on my antena. Got a call from my boss telling me that the union wanted him to fire me because I bought a Honda. F*ckin sad. I"M NOT EVEN A FORD OR UAW EMPLOYEE!!! Next two days I have to drive my s2000 into work because I have no other ride. I'm scared to death to go out there and see key scrapes or dents... Luckily I escaped with no damage. I bought an old eclipse to drive to work everyday.. Whats funny, is our Systems Electrician bought a Porsche Boxster last year and never heard a Peep from anyone... F*ckin sad... A G5 prelude tries to get me to run a little. (HEY THATS MY OLD CAR!!) I notice that the net on the right side of the dash is hard to reach and open while driving.

-500 Miles: Ok, this car grabs a LOT of attention... almost too much. It's definatley not my personality, and I'm not sure how much I like it. But it's been etched in stone that I absolutely LOVE this car. Even without being able to redline the engine this is a GREAT sportscar. If they sold this car for $23-25 with a 160 engine in it, It would still be a great car... but at 560 miles I let out second gear to 9000 rpms... this AGAIN was much more powerful than the two that I test drove. Don't know what it was.. don't care, I'm happy. I couldn't imagine a car that I would trade this in for. Maybe a M3... but it would be a tough descision. There is no car like this for any price... Hopefully the vortec supercharger, when it comes out, will make this the absolute perfect sports car.

Welcome to the board.

Great story. I can't believe those guys at Ford giving you such a hard time. I'm sure they were just jealous.

The car gets stronger the more you drive it. I definitely noticed a surge in power after 5K miles.

Hehe, good story. And like some others have mentioned, the motor only gets better with time.

The way you were treated at the Ford plant -- annoying!

If an American car manufacturer would build a comparable car -- I'd consider it. But there's nothing quite like the S 2000. American cars have come lightyears since the '80s, but they don't have the same agenda.

Don't get me wrong -- I love some American cars. I currently, and in the past, have owned a few. But the horror stories I've heard I attribute to the engineers who designed the car, not the assembly workers. There's tons of foreign cars assembled in the United States!

How many nimble RWD two seater American cars have been made? Pontiac Fiero? Chevrolet Corvette?

A Corvette is more expensive, and Camaros and Mustangs are powerful (and good cars, I had an '84 that reach 157k back in the day), but not as nimble in stock form.

The only thing that comes close might be the Chrysler Crossfire, but even that has it's drawbacks. As of now, hardtop only, SC 2.7 V6 ~ 275hp, 5 speed (!), 0-60 5.8s (must be heavy!). Production date ???? who knows?

Bottom line for me: If I like it, I'll buy it.

Posts like this keep me motivated. I have 5 months to go before I get the first drive of my own Sap '02 S2.

I really like the part where you ignored the little cars and popped in a new CD. Street racing is wrong. Period.

Enjoy the ride. Perfect color pick!
