6th gear got up and walked away (Cannot go into 6th)
To start off I have an 02 S2K with around 27.7k miles. I'm driving around, to be honist I was at a higher RPM (Vtec engauged) and I'm being easy with the gears. 1st gear I take off a little, 2nd gear I get it up in the RPMs, I try to shift to third gear and push it a little too far into 5th with the clutch still down and it grinds a little. I take my hand off the shifter right away and think to myself (Not again). This has actually happened once before in the past.
Well after that little grind to 5th, I can't get it into 6th. It honistly feels like its not there anymore. Last time I took it to Honda under warrenty (which yes, I'm going to do AGAIN) they screwed it up even worse before I got it back corrected.
But it just feels like 6th isn't even there, literally. It feels like theres a metal plate stopping me from going into that gear.
Is there anything I can do right now because I gotta take a highway trip later on tomorrow and I don't wanna have to be stuck in 5th @ 70mph.
Anybody know what might be causing this?
If I can't fix it myself, I'm going to push Honda just to replace the whole damn transmission.
Thanks!
Edit : And yes, by the way, I'm a crappy shifter... I'm used to my Mustang shifter where the springs are so tight you gotta fight it into 5th.

Actually it has nothing to do with the synchro cones not matching speeds. The gear shift lever needs to move from the neutral position into the selected gear position before there is pressure applied to the synchro cones.
The problem you are having is caused by the grinding that occured when you accidently tried to shift into 5th gear. You have likely damaged your 5th/6th gear synchro sleeve and its this damage that is preventing you from engaging 6th gear.
Your not the first to do this and you wont be the last.
I have heard of others fixing this problem by forcing/hitting it into 6th gear but frankly i think your just as likely to bend the 5th/6th gear shift fork trying it.
