Default 81K on Original Clutch!

I bought my Suzuka Blue, AP1 new on March 15, 2002. Thirteen years later and I am still driving with the OEM clutch. No, I am not into burning rubber, the twisties are what I crave.

Anyway, I was wondering if thats some sort of record! I just ordered a clutch kit, but I don't need to install it right away. Guess I will do it before I get to the bitter end and have to surface my flywheel. I haven't even looked to see if its meaty enough to take a cleanup.
If anyone has any tips for the r&R I am all ears. I used to teach autoshop so, I have the skills and the tools. I know this will be an involved job since the power train is bolted together better than the average car!

The tight clearances, top starter bolt, and a couple trans bolts where you need a mile of extensions are the hardest part. I was able to do the whole thing myself on jack stands with some assistance when removing/installing the trans and bleeding the clutch. There is a great write-up here: (https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/779...h-install-diy/). Way easier than most cars I have done to say the least (FWD).

90K and going strong on my original clutch. You're not even close to a record. There are many owners with well over 100K miles on the original clutch... I think I remember one owner with around 200K (with many highway miles)! That clutch kit you bought might be sitting around for a long time.

I changed my clutch because a couple thousand miles ago (about 83k miles now) because I thought the TOB was going bad. Turns out my OEM clutch disk looked brand new! I would've even put it right back in if I hadn't had a new one.

Have a friend with 180k on the original clutch and it's been tracked a lot.

Not sure what it really says you got 81k.

PM wingman...he's 250k+...not sure if he's ever replaced his. I have a feeling your grandchildren will be asking about it before it's installed

My first S was at 164k on the original clutch when I sold it and was just starting to get to the point of needing to be replaced. It wasn't slipping at all unless you really dropped it hard to launch.
Other than that, it was perfectly fine. Probably could have squeezed another 20-30k out of it if you were nice to it.
