Default 8k RPM clutch dump = no strain on differential?

I read this on Honda Tech:
S2000's diff is not that weak. Autocrossers do 8K+ clutch dumps all day long ON R COMPOUND tyres and have no problems with their diff. breaking. I personally do 8K clutch drops at autocrosses on my car, though with street tyres.

The key is the 8K+ rpm. You're transferring enough power to break lose the rear wheels so your diff isn't taking the strain.
And I was hoping I could get some input on this. I does sound rediculous to me though.

My understanding is...if you do a clutch dump and do not properly break traction and get wheel spin, then it will be harsh on your differential.

that's what i thought too... launching at 6k and keeping the foot on the gas so that you get wheelspin and stay above 6k... perhaps I am misinformed?

R-compounds on an autocross surface (read HOT & STICKY) may warrant higher launch RPMs. Aslong as you get the tires to slip instead of the clutch or bogging all that power into the diff, it'll be okay.

Remember launch RPMs depends on the amount of grip you have available at hand. This is true for every car, not just the S2k.

they are right. getting the tire to spin is going to be easier on your diff than bogging a launch and not getting enough wheelspin.

Personnally I find slipping the clutch some for an AutoX launch. I can't afford that split second of time when the car is actually sitting still with the tires blazing.

well, you'll stress the diff for sure.. whether it strains badly is another issue

if the tires spin then some of the energy is released that way.. if the car grips then its conserved in the driveline which includes the diff so itll be harsher on the diff...
