Default AAArrrggghhhh (92 Octane going away in CA)

No joke folks.
Tosco is switching to 91 octane and will not be providing 92 octane through their pipeline after August 1.

Here is the Tosco memo:
http://www.binaryvista.com/temp/ToscoMemo1.html

Here is the link to the Tosco feedback form:
http://www.tosco.com/internet_pub/reposito...rvice/1043.html

I sent in a comment and got back a message saying that "91 Octane should be fine for your car"

This *blows*.

The really weak thing is that it has leaked from internal memos that it actually has nothing to do with "protecting gas supplies." They're just trying to take advantage of the current panic over energy supplies in CA to increase profits by charging the same amount for cheaper gas.

The memo seems to only refer to Unocal 76, what about the others?

I am surprised to hear that 92 is even available for sale in the US. I have never been anywhere in the country that offers 92, everywhere else I have been (and I do travel all over the states) gas stations only offer 91 and 93 - so grin and bare it like the rest of us and learn to get screwed for the 93 - my friends and I always joke about the mythical 92 octane that is recommended by Honda/Acura but not sold anywhere - I guess it was in California (it is kind of like finding out that the tooth fairy is REAL only to see her die in front of you).

Here it's 86 (?), 89 or 92, so we would be left 3 points short. I've never seen 91 or 93 at any California pumps.
