Default About to remove the windshield tape...

Hey guys, i'm about to go pull my windshield tape since the summer is half gone and I still have my hardtop on. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or advice on pulling it if they have already done it. I'm just gonna take a razor blade to start it at the bottom and try to peel it with a heat gun. Sound good?

You shouldnt even need the razor blade to start it, use a blowdryer or really low heat setting so you dont burn the paint. Let it sit in the sun for about an hour before you start

I didn't use a razor blade or a heat gun. I just let the car sit out in the hot sun when it was 95 degrees, and just pulled it off with my fingers. I made a thread about mine, I'll try to find it.

I'd say a heat gun is overkill unless you are somewhere really cold. Just be patient and don't panic if you come across a scuffed spot on the paint, it will most likely (95%+) buff right out with a mild polish.

Be prepared to use some rubbing compound and swirl remover. A fairly small area of my paint looked like it had been hit with a disc sander when the tape was removed. Fortunately, it looks as good as new after a bit of hand buffing with the above 3-M products. Some people have reported pristine paint under their tape, so you might be one of the lucky ones.

Damn, I wish I would have read this before pulling it after I made the post. The pain underneath is PERFECT , but the thing is that I don't think I heated the tape enough before pulling it so now I have glue residue all over the place and it is being a total PITA to take off. With "oops" (like goo gone), I am only rubbing off about an inch every 5 minutes, this sucks.

I wore out both my thumbnails scraping that goo off. It just takes time, I also used the edge of an expired credit card with 'some' success. Appearently the older the tape is (like any tape) the harder it is to get the goo off.

Does anybody have a picture of a silverstone car w/the tape removed?
Please post it. I would like to see what it lookslike.
Thanks,
Russ
