Unhappy ABS Light was on for a while~! Help~~

I have 2004 S2k with 500 miles. When I started her this morning, ABS light was on, and i drove about 30 miles with it on. All frustrated, having picked up the car just last week and all. Anywayz, I stopped by to get gas and when i started the car after filling it up, it just went away. I made several other stops after that, and it's normal now.

Has any of you seen the similar problem? What could have caused it? Should I have the dealer inspect it ?

I know that it means the ABS system has shut down and that it doesn't affect the normal breaking.

Thanks for any input, guys~!

never heard about that problem on the s2k. The only times I ever got it was dynoing my 300zxTT and also when she had to gon rollers for emissions. Didn't affect breaking though. All you had to do was restart the car and it would go away.

Something might have been on the ABS sensor (grease / dirt), eventually it came off and the light reset when you started your engine.

Just my guess

check the fluid level? worst case it could be a loose connection, I would not worry until it comes on and stays on.

Hi Jinuoppa,

The fluid level will have nothing to do with setting the ABS lamp.

Only wheel speed sensor problems, or other electrical disconnections will.

My guess is (especially since the car is virtually new) that the ABS module (computer) fuse, or maybe the ABS pump fuse is sitting loose.

Did (first time!) the lamp come on immediately after startup? In that case most likely the ABS computer. If it came on (first time!) after you reached a speed of about 5-10 mph, than it can be the ABS pump.

If a quick check doesn't point to loose fuse, I'd pay a visit to the dealer. Maybe they can read the error out from the ABS unit. I would NOT wait until it comes on again, because that could occur at hard braking when you NEED the ABS to work.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the input.

It came on right after i started the car. (the light always comes on when you start the car, and then immediately goes off, but in my case it just stayed on)
so , i guess it could be ABS comp , then. I will check it with the dealer.

Thanks

it's very wierd that my ABS light would come on only when weather is cold and drive on the freeway for about half an hour i've had this problem for a while and it would go off if i start the car again. i told the dealer about the problem but they said the light has to be on in able for them to find out the problem is. i find this very annoying and it always happen at night when dealer is closed...
back to your case, i think your car shouldn't have this problem since it's relatively new. go to the dealer and they should solve the problem under warranty. good luck to you

Alex,

The light would go off once you start again. Do you mean once you start again and start to drive, at reaching about 10 mph, that the lamp goes out again? Or do you mean immediately once you re-start the lamp goes out?

Well, the light wasn't on this morning when i was about to make a visit to the dealer~

Quite similar to alexchou, when i restart the car (after driving it for a little bit), the light immediately goes away. So, i was also suspecting that it comes on when i start the car cold . Weird~ For example, yesterday, when i started the car in the morning, the light again came on and stayed on. After I drove to work, I shut her down and restarted, the light immediately went away.

Anyhow, the light is not on right now, and I tried hard breaking, and i definitely feel ABS kicking in. I think I will just wait until my first maintenance (oil change), and have them look at it then. I really don't want them to open up my car and mess with it, when it only has 640 miles~
