Accident
Got hit last night on the way home, Jeep Compass with no skill came sliding around a corner in the snow at about 40mph and hit the left front of my 2005, I saw him coming and was able to stop as far to the right as possble but he hit me pretty hard, both airbags deployed, broken steering knuckle, broken rim, trashed nose, hood and LF fender, LF headlight, airpump and harness, both seat belt retracters gone, not sure of the rest yet, wonder how much before they total it? 15k on the car, I do not want the car back.
^^
Not always true.
Most insurance companies will total a car if the repairs cost more than 75-80% of the value of the car. By the sound of it, you'll be right about at the cutoff mark.
If they say they won't total it and it's right about at their margin for totaling, you can always press them to total it. I had the opposite situation when a lady hit me and they were going to total my car (old ford escort) because the repair cost was just over the cusp, and I told the adjustor that I wanted them to repair it with no totalling. They did it just fine. It was only two door panels that got crunched in.

Im thinking airbags and related SRS $3-$4,000, headlight $1000, air pump $1000+, rim and tire $700, steering knuckle $?, fender$?, hood?, bumper?, windsheild $300, ect. Question is what will they value it at and at what point is it totaled? Wheather it's fixable or it's totalled I do not want it back, I want an unhit perfect car again, this hit will diminish the value to me and the car will never be the same.
They will value it at NADA Black book as well as comparable cars going at auction. If you are too far under their cut-off, you wont have a choice. They wont total it if it's more inexpensive to fix it.
The value "to you" doesn't matter to the insurance company.

Blackbook is around $15,000 for a 15k car, retail is around $17-18,000, unless you go buy NADA then it's $20,000 but that is high. looks to be $11-12k in damage total, they will look at it Monday or Tuesday.
