Default Accident On X-Mas

So on Christmas night I was driving to a friend's house and spun out. Taking a right turn, my back end went to the left, I did a 180, and went onto the curb (right side of the road), facing the way I came from. My 2 driver side wheels were on the curb... And I wasn't going more than 20 mph.
So now she's in the shop... There is no body damage, and only the rear wheel/suspension area is damaged. The caliper actually ATE a piece of the rotor, the suspension, wheel, controller arms, a-frame?, etc. are all messed up...
For such a minor accident, I'm estimated at $6,000. Does this sound too steep? The Honda dealer AND the shop it's at quoted about the same... But I'm just astonished. Because I'm only 17 (bought the car myself so spare yourself the "damn kids getting things given to them" speech), I don't want to go through Insurance and pay for this for the rest of my life... But $6k is a lot of money, and I'm just surprised it's so bad.

I don't want to hear about driving wrecklessly, how a young kid shouldn't have an S2000, or how in your your day you would have had another consquence. I've heard it all. Trust me.

I'm just wondering if the S2k is prone to frame damage on minor accidents, and if $6,000 seems steep for what I briefly described above. And if you know of any places that are known to get OEM parts for extremely cheap. Right now I believe my shop is just ordering from Honda... That's a killer.

-I drew a picture of the accident on MS Paint, but I cannot post it here and don't wish to host it on my Car Domain, so if anybody can help me, email me at notrque@gmail.com. I think it may be hard to understand without the picture, but ya never know.

Thanks...

That sounds about right. I am sure you don't have frame damage. The S2000 is designed to brake like that. If you search around, you can find those parts for far less then that. Maybe from a salavge yard or someone S2ki.com. You can buy the whole rear section of the car for about 3k from a salavge yard (LKQ) But the labor is still going to cost you.

Now my guess as to why it happend (Age, blah, blah), it was the cold weather and the OEM tires??

It takes one spin to learn no vtec'ing when cold.

Looks to me like over half the owners here have gotten into some type of an accident or another.

I'm not calling you a liar, but the only way I could get my car to spin at 20mph is if I bury the throttle in a U turn. What gives? How come everyone else can spin their cars so easily?

. Were you still in 1st gear? are you sure you weren't trying to take the corner at 30mph? i could see the car sliding out at around 30mph.

did you brake hard as soon as you started sliding out?

It was rainy (first day of rain in a while, which worst), cold (maybe 40?), I'm inexperienced with the car, etc...
I did NOT hit the brake (learned that mistake before), and I have brand new Yokohamas on the wheels...

I was just going to fast, and once it started spinning, I couldn't correct. I need experience, and maybe an Auto-X course this Spring...

I will email you the picture now. Thanks a lot.

Edit: I was in 2nd gear, and I guarentee no more than 25mph. It was a normal downshift for the turn, and I don't put the revs higher than 4k when I'm slowing down/downshifting for a turn.

I'm only 18 and I'm trying to save everything I can to get an s2000. I'm just wondering how you could afford one at 17?

Sorry to hear about the S. Did you hit a patch of leaves or anything? If you got something between the tires and the road, that would easily send the car off. I've spun an awd car because I hit road debris, and at night, it can be hard to see. Sometimes these things just happen. btw, you shouldn't post your email publicly - it will get picked up and put on spam lists - ask ppl to pm you.

I had been saving for an M3 since year 2000 (E46 debut), worked, saved, invested, got lucky... Couldn't afford the M3, so I bought a used S2k for just over $20k. I love high compression and high redline!!!!

I don't believe there was road debris. I'd love to blame it on something... But I think the fact is just that I was going to quickly in the fresh rain. Maybe I just GAVE it too much gas while in the turn, even though I wasn't going extremely fast.
And as the picture will show, it's not a 90 degree turn. It had part of median the right, and was a bent turn.

That's awesome. I have a 325is right now, I'm thinking in about two years I'll be able to afford an s2000. Sorry to take this off topic.
