Definitely tires. Anytime my car feels that way I stop and check the rear. Always its either too high or low, pressure wise.

 

i agree, it's the tires creating the problem as you also noticed. i had some pretty worn down bridgestones on before i replaced them with re050 pole positions, and i haven't had that snap oversteer problem in rain since.

 

Cool, cheers for the advice, I will make sure these are the correct pressure and drive alot more carefully.

Im planning on getting new tires and alloys next month, so if i can hold out untill then everything should be fine.

 

my car did something similar in the dry during cold weather and then in rain on the old tires (don't know why someone would run some shitty tires on a car like this) but since I bought my new tires (Falken FK452's) i haven't had a problem.

You have an AP1? Those are also known to be a bit tailhappy, so good tires and a good alignment are very important.

 

Weird, I always see people talk about how tail-happy the 00-01 s2000s are but no matter how hard im turning I cant get the rear end to kick out unless im doing it intentionally.

My NB miata did it alot more, but its more controllabe.

 

I only mention this because no one else has yet...Maybe you should also look into an aftermarket traction control system. Might also give you more piece of mind while your driving in the rain. And remember, you can turn it off anytime.

Remember, it's just a suggestion...So don't go bellywackers on me(I watch too much BBC).

Its the tires. I had some ok sumatomos on the back and some Advans on the front when I bought the car and it was damn squirly in the wet. Swapping out for some Bridstone RE050A PP's made a tremendious difference. The car is now comfortable in the rain as long as I don't get too agressive.
