Adding Rollbar, what about the seatbelts?
I Dare not post this on the racing thread, because its a street car and there for
Not racing related.
That being said, I took out the soft top and bolted on a OEM hardtop.
I removed the cheezie OEM rollbars as well. I'll put in a good single bar.
Now I have alot more room behind the seats, but the stock seatbelt retracts are kinda in the way. Plus they run through a bracket on the OEM rollbars that are no longer there.
Has anyone repositioned the OEM seatbelt retracts?
It looks like I could swap the left and right retracts and maybe mount them on the far left and right, behind the seats. Then weld a bracket on the new rollbar.
Any ideas?? Thanks, Butch

You didn't post in R&C for good reason - you'da gotten blasted for the foolishness of putting a rollbar in the car that you'll drive without using a helmet. You'll only need to have your head hit the rollbar once, even if padded, to understand why. Perhaps after you wake up...

If he is hitting his head on a roll bar that is behind his seats in the stock location then he probably has a few more problems to worry about.
You could weld or clamp a seatbelt guide onto the roll bar that you have installed.
(Having done the same sort of thing for my track car, I think you are crazy to do this for a street car, but it's your choice to make.)

I'm more surprised to see that he actually added a roll bar to a street car that has already had the soft top removed and replaced with a hard top.
That afraid of rolling your car on the street?

In trying to find a decent rebuildable S2000, I ran across several that had been rolled over and they were street driven cars not track cars. And on a couple of them, the OEM rollbars didn't hold up.
You hit something low enough and hard enough, your rolling over, and you better hope those stock thin roll bars hold up.
I repair and restore corvettes for over 30 years now. I can't even count the number of cars that were rolled over that I fixed.
One Gal, had a 66 vette roadster she autocrossed, but was mostly street driven. It had a simple 4point bar in it. Going down a country road in Fresno, Ca, late at night. coming around a tight turn, she hit a 1800lb Bull that had broke through the fence and wondered out on the highway. It riped the nose off, as well as the radiator support, the whole windshield and frame and bent the rollbar back. The Bull ended up on top of the rollbar, with one of his horns through her sholder and pinned her to the seat. If not for the bar, she'd be gone.
So I guess most of you are not driving hard enough to worry about getting your head smashed in, but I do!

So what about in your race cars, with non-OEM rollbars.
Do you leave the stock belts in or always change over to racing type belts.
I haven't raced in many years, but long ago there were certin classes that required stock belts, but allowed a non-OEM rollbar.

Wow, it looks like I'm one of the first guys to build a S2k into a street Hotrod.
I mean a 150mph, 9000rpm, top handleing street car, driven by a bunch of putt putt drivers seems to just be a waste of a fine machine.
Why not just get a base price Civic and make it look fast!

Actually, I'm not in the habit of driving my car, even slow, without wearing a seat belt to keep my head from hitting the rollbar.
