Advice for first mods.
Hi! This is one of my first posts to this board. I'll probably be buying a s2000 next summer. And yes
, I have a deposit for the RSXTypeR now, but it doesn't look like it's coming out anytime next. So I'm probably going to take back my deposit and use it for the s2000. I have some questions. Should I get an intake first? Is so which one is the best, besides Mugen. I was thinking AEM but I'm not sure about their quality. And also should I purchase an exhaust? I have read over and over about other members saying that there are no power increase or power lose, etc. And do I need aftermarket sway bars? And also I'll probably get the black interior but I want to swap red seats. How much do you think it'll cost and also do think the dealer is willing to swap the seats for me? And last I really want to buy the jdm rims, how much are they? Thanks for any replies!

Not to rip on new people (since I'm pretty new), but I see a lot of people asking which mod to do first. How about you drive the car for a while and then figure out if the car needs any mods? Especially with all the recent S2000 accidents, get it on a track and learn the car first. Learn if there are any shortcomings, then get a mod to improve the shortcomings. Or you can just buy a giant wing, that fixes everything
. Just my $.02.

I agree completely, drive the car for a while and decide for yourself. I have 3400mi on a 2000YM S2000 without any performance mods. & guess what? The car is still an absolute blast to drive!
IMO, adding mods to get better "dragster/off-the-line" performance is a waste, I think it's the wrong car for really impressive 1/4 mile results. The handling is also quite good, although some forum members have had success in those types of mods when using the car to auto-x. Appearance mods are a matter of personal taste, I'd suggest you make those choices on your own, and not let anyone dictate your "style".
Finally, good call on going with the S2000 over the RSX, you won't be sorry!

First mod- Performance driving school!
Not meant as an insult or anything! I've taken two courses now (one with other cars and one with ONLY S2000's) and have improved greatly each time! I have had lots of RWD experience AND over half a million accident-free miles BUT, this car is special and learning what it can do and you can do while on a track in a class is the BEST mod I made.
Trust me, the car is pretty damn good stock. I agree with the others, drive and enjoy it and then you get a feel for what you may or may not want to add.
Most important, drive safe and have fun!

I agree here.... I don't have any performance mods on my car yet, and I think it's still a blast to drive. It handles very well already, and although it CAN be peppy off-the-line it isn't a torque monster, and if that's what you want, save some $$$ and get an american muscle car. Just my 2 cents.
Personally, I've thrown money at my car for (in order):
Rear Spoiler,
MuzMat, Rick's Leather Console <-- essentials IMO
Hardtop,
Front Spoiler,
JVC SH-99 MP3 CD Headunit <--- VERY pleased with this
Sony Xplod 1621 3-way speakers
StreetPilot III GPS + Mounting Hardware

OK, I'll play.
Exhaust mod: 100% worthless. Pay big money, get more noise. How much do you want to spend for noise alone if you can accomplish the same thing by drilling two 1/4" holes in the exhaust pipe for free.
Cold Air Intake: Worthless, may reduce the resale value. The car is already set up to take in cold air AND with Ram effect. Cutting out a hole in your front end might make you feel good about your prowess with a skill-saw, but the HP increase is negligible.
Sway bars? Can't really say, because I've haven't used them, but I can say that this car sways less than any car I've driven short of a late model Corvette. It is fine the way it is. Now....it does LOOK bithchin' to have the front overhead bar seen in the engine bay, but don't count on any seat-of-the-pants difference in how it feels. I may buy one for looks alone, but expecting any significant gains is a joke.
As far as swapping out red seats for black, I doubt if a dealer would swap out a set...these cars sell too fast as is. Take the red, use it 'till you can't stand it anymore, chances are you will learn to adapt....if not, buy new ones (probably cost you close to 2K if you want stock). If you can't handle that, order a different color paint.

Not really the reply the reply that I was looking for.
Yeah I did drive it the other day but I didn't get to vtec it because my friend just got the new Suzuki Blue.
He says there's only six in America, I'm not sure whether that's true or not because the dealers told him that. I know the s2000 is a good car already but I still want to make it better. I'm thinking supercharger but that's a pretty hefty price tag. Thanks anyways!

Just got my S two days ago and plan on leaving it stock for quite a while. Plan to run stock auto-x this year.
If I were going to mod the car, I'd find out what will improve handling, and sometime way down the road, I may stick a turbo on it. If 240hp is fun then 340hp.....
