Thumbs up Advice on selling my vortech s/c

Hey all-

I've got all of the components for my vortech supercharger off my car except for the crank pulley which is coming off soon.

Anyhow, the charger has started leaking a little oil from the seals and I got a quote from vortech to service it for $300 + shipping. This includes replacing all of the seals and the bearing.

My question is this: I really don't feel like farting with it, but don't want it to sacrifice the sale of the system. Should I suck it up and get it serviced myself? -or- Should I put it up for sale for $300 less than what I'm asking for and state that it should be serviced for maintenance in the for sale ad?

I'd like to get $3600 if I service it, or $3300 if I don't because it comes with extras like: vafc2, and a pre-wired harness for both vafc2 and vortec electronics so there's no need to cut wires (quicker to install or go back to stock - literally just plug and go), boost gauge, and will also come with a crank vent style pcv valve (supra pcv valve). Do you think these prices are fair?

Thanks for all your help.

-Leon

Needing maintenance gives the impression that you haven't maintained it properly, and most serious buyers wouldn't take a second look, especially given the cost of the service. You should do it before you sell it, and advertise it as 'just serviced'.

I would offer both. Offer to service it yourself or the new buyer can do it. Seems you have been honest and straight forward with the condition. Give the option to a buyer that may want one but doesn't have enought money right now. They can service it when they get around to it.

I did that with my last car knocked off $500 if they took it 'as is' OR I would take it down for detailing and engine shampoo but add that cost back onto the car. I mean anyone can get it detailed and they may have friends in the business.

I'm actually in the market for one, and he's right. If you posted it up for sale with maintenance required, I wouldn't give it a second look.

Also, from what I've seen, upgrades don't really affect the price too much. People are selling basic kits for the same price as upgraded ones like yours. The only ones that are demanding a premium are the ones with the "t" trim blower. I'd say you're about $300 high. $3300 with the service done should be about normal.

I've got some stuff up for sale. When it sells, I'm going to be looking at purchasing. I've got too many toys, I need to make room.

well...I have a Vortech as well, and I just replaced all bearings in it. I'll be selling mine here in a couple of months and was going to sell it for $2700. btw the bearing swap cost me $600... not sure on the mileage on yours, but your price is a bit steep. btw I'm the first owner of my kit.

Not to high jack thread, but why are you gonna sell it? I thought you were happy with it.

wanna try a turbo kit. I've wanted to go turbo from the begining, but at that time not a lot of reliable turbo'ed s2000's around...it seems most are doing well with their turbo's these days, so I just want to try something different. btw I'll be picking up a beater in a couple of months.
