AEM V2 cold air intake problems?
I tried to get to the bottom of warranty issues with modifications and called my Honda dealer's service department. They said that the installation would void my warranty and it would cause damage to the airbox. He stated that other owners of S2Ks had come in with intakes set up and the cars had major engine problems. They said that exhaust systems would not void the warranty, but who wants t oput in just an exhaust system without the intake? Any similar experiences with intakes? And how well do they work for you? Thanks in advance for the input!
As a general rule there is absolutely no way the intake can void the warranty.
There are some caviats, if they can prove that the mod caused the problem then it will invalidate the warranty.
For example if you went with a cold air intake and drove through something deep enough to suck water into the engine, then yeah they would not be able to honor the warrenty and rightly so in my book.
When all said and done, it's rare for an intake to cause problems. Possible culprits are over oiled filters contaminating the MAF, incorrect fitment and sucking up water. All are common sense issues and can be avoided.
I personally have a V2 intake on my car with the front grill cut out, but I live in So Cal so water is rarely a problem, and I have the luxury of driving another car if it is.
I have nothing but praise for the system.
I do also have a Mazda RX-8 and some intakes for this have been proven to cause rough idling due to airflow interruption. In the S2000
Thanks for the reply. I would certainly get some sort of water barrier for the intake, since the mid-atlantic region does not have california-type weather. I was also wondering if it would be more efficient to add a DC header to increase the air flow? And did anyone out there simply add an exhaust system to their S? (without any other mods) And how is it working out for you? Thanks again...
An intake is by far the best bang for the buck on the S2000. I was not going to add an exhaust.... but then scored a slightly used Comptech. The gains of just a few HP + the weight savings are negligable. It does "Sound" faster though.
If you go V2 then you can't put any kind of water barrier in there. To be honest, so long as you don't cut out the front and don't drive wade through flooded roads you should be fine. The water would have to go around a bend, up a slope and around another bend to make it to the intake. The water level would have to be level or higher than the bottom of the intake pipe to do that. Some water vapor is just fine and won't do any harm at all.

yeah put the DC header in there only because its cheap and you can tell your friends you have a header.a stock S will murder you and you will be asking your self why....
P.S. and later on get a HKS exhaust, that is also great because its HKS and your friends might know it from NFS
