Aftermarket Softop replacement
So I've found a 2003 S2000 that needs a new Softtop. The factory one has large tears in the normal locations. Does anyone have any experience replacing the factory softtop with an aftermarket one? I ask because I see the price difference is something like 300 or more dollars between a Honda one and an aftermarket one. I'm trying to decide if I should have the dealer put a top on it or if I should do it myself. I could do it, but I dont' know if I want the hassle. Does anyone know the approximate cost to have it dealer installed?
Thanks,
Austin

Robbins makes some nice after market soft tops. A cheaper alternative is EZ On tops which seems to be pretty good. I installed the EZ on glass window conversion on my 01 a couple of years ago and still looking great!
Install isn't too bad especially if you have a friend help you out.

I recommend the Robbins top. In my opinion it is as good/better than the OEM Honda top.
As far as installation, if you can find someone that does it for cheap, I'd jump on the opportunity. I couldn't find anyone to do it for less than $1000 when I replaced mine so I did it myself and it's a pain in the ass. Also, get the cloth top. I bought the vinyl one and I always wish I had gotten the cloth.

i replace em in central florida for 500 and it takes an afternoon.
robbins and ez-on are cheap alternatives because, well...they're cheap. no way around it. there is a reason why the oem lasts as long as it does and why the factory chose it over a robbins or ez-on material. think about it guys, Honda isnt trying to give you free shit, they are trying to make money and the quality of the aftermarket tops just isnt there to make money with. dont kid yourself. fit and finish tells the story.
dont cheap out.

I called my local dealership yesterday to get a price for replacing it, you're going to love this:
Top: ~1270
Labor: ~1600
Total with tax: ~$2950
Holy freak'n crap. I figured a grand for the labor, not 1600, and the tops can be found online FROM HONDA for $860. Guess I'll be doing this myself if I decide to get the vehicle. I've got until Monday to decide.
