should you take off your SRS airbag steering wheel and replace it with a quick release hub and aftermarket steering wheel? how safe would it be?

Unless this is a track only car, removing the airbag is signifigantly more dangerous as well as visibly illegal. A cop will see the lack of an airbag when he/she pulls you over.

It's not a question we can answer. How safe? Not as safe for sure but by how much I dunno. Disconnecting the airbag is doable, I've done it. If you want the SRS light to go off you'll need a special resistor for the airbag connector. I've got one but not sure where I got it from or when.

I believe most cars b4 1994 do not have airbags........(Doubt it's illegal, if so, and you get pulled over.....it will probably be the least of your worries.)

I know my 93 beater doesn't

I have the MoMo, quick release. I love it. Could careless about the airbag.
Air Bags save lives no doubt about that, but they also hurt people in minor accidents too......I don't have a 5 pt harness, or roll cage. But if you are going to make that purchase then it's safer than my set up.
Just my 2 cents, take it with a grain of salt

IMO, if you ever involve in an accident, the air bag will do more damage to your face than hitting your head to the steering wheel.

Ok, just to clear up a few points. 1. It is illegal in the US. (not sure about other countries) After 96 or 97 (Can't remember which year) all vehicles released in the US were required by the US DOT to have dual front airbags. Tampering/removal of such is illegal for street use.

And yes, airbags can do more harm than good in low speed collisions (abrasions of the face and hands as well as burning of the hands from the blowoff of the hot gasses), however many lives have been saved in more serious collisions because of airbags.

To me, you have a downside for each. With airbag: you get in a small fender bender and end up being inconvenienced by a bit of skin damage due to airbag deployment.
W/O airbag: you get in a major accident and end up in the hospital for weeks (assuming you survive the initial impact) if not months with major internal and external damage requiring huge doctor bills and years of rehab.

I'll take downside 1 for $500.

It's all about what you want tho, if the risk is acceptable to you, cool, if not, that's cool too. It's not worth it to me.

IMO, if you ever involve in an accident, the air bag will do more damage to your face than hitting your head to the steering wheel.
You're kidding, right?
