Im sure this question has been asked before but I couldnt find it in the Archives.

After taking the cover off the airbox I saw a piece of plastic directly in front of the filter. The obvious questions are:

1) Has anyone seen/felt/heard any kind of gain by removing the piece. Is it just there so that the filter will be slower to get dirty? Im not talking about leaving the top of the airbox off so I doubt that temperature will affect the air being sucked in if the piece is removed. Is there anything else that I should be worried about?

2) Whats the best way to get rid of the block? I was thinking to just get a kitchen knife and saw into it. (Im kinda ghetto like that)

3) I was looking at the Backyard Special carbon fiber piece that goes in front of the engine bay. Does anyone have any opinions?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure anyone confirmed exactly what the wall is for, but since these boxes are "tuned" I won't remove it. I do knowsome here did do exactly that, but I don't remember who (or if they really felt any difference afterwards).

if memory serves me correctly, a dyno proved that you actually lose hp with the air box off.

The first chamber is a silencer. Quieting the car is one thing I'm not worried about. I'm contemplating doing something with that wall also. But I'm also waiting for others to experiment. Once the wall is cut, there is no turning back. I think some with K&N filters cut some of the wall away just to get the filter to fit.
