How are the Viper alarms? Are they good with proximity? Someone told me that they suck.. I know DEI makes Viper, and owns Clifford. I would like to get Clifford, but I have a $300 gift certificate to Circuit City, and they only sell Viper. So, what are your opinions on Viper w/ proximity???

everyone always complains about prox sensors, and everyone who does most likely didn't get a good install - a good install includes a good location for the sensor, as well as proper tuning of the alarm - many installers just put in in and turn it on - working at tweeter, i have a good relationship with my installer and we came up with some great ideas for the system... where to mount the prox sensor most efficiently, turning it properly (right now there's about a 2-4" force field around my car that nothing goes through without a nasty warning tone), etc. beauty of a good system (like the clifford 600) is that you can disable the prox sensor if you desire, like on rainy or windy days... or you can adjust it's sensitivity level with your remote - again, a good installer who'll show you how to use your whole system helps here. i've no complaints with my system, and anyone who wants one or who wants to ask me about them is certainly welcome to PM me... later.

I have a Hofco with a single mode proximity sensor. My installer did a great job on the install and even connected my remote to do all the things the Honda remote does. Cost of the alarm with the install was around $500.00. i don't know if you can get this alarm out on the east coast though.

The viper (dual prox) is about the size of a deck of cards. Since I have mind mounted in the glovebox it will be easy to get you a pic. I'll try to remember when I get home.
