Default Alignment

Having noticed that there seems to be a lot of S2000 "loopings", I would like to suggest that anyone feeling that the rear end is too sensitive to movement, have the car alignment checked by someone that KNOWS what they are doing.

I had the car alignment checked and found that the front settings were set to GRANDMA settings while the rear was set to SUPER AGGRESSIVE settings. This made for some interesting responses.

This will in NO way compensate for breaking or lift off in a corner. It did make a great difference in my being able to adjust the car's attitude while cornering and a general sense of security.

Ok, so what were the settings "pre" and "post"?

(just want to make sure my grandma can drive the thing)

I have no idea what the settings are. I'm sure that Darin at West End Alignment could fill you in. 1-310-808-9233. He aligned the car with me in it, after asking what type of driving I was planning on doing. I have always felt that the rite person for the job is worth a drive. Sorry that I didn't think to get the settings. The most important thing is how the car works. IT RIPS.

No harshing on your shop, as i'm sure they did a great job, but its standard practice to provide "before" and "after" alignment settings (at least everywhere I've ever been).

It will help you in the future if you ever want to tweak you ride later. You should get:
F: Camber, Toe, Caster
R: Camber, Toe

BTW, if you check out the thread "post your alignment", you'll see a wide range of what people consider ideal. ENJOY!

Chill out guys. Darin is one of the best alignment guys, if not THE BEST, in Los Angeles. That's why many people from this board will ONLY go to him and drive long distances to do so.

jahwerx, you are correct in that I should have kept a record of the alignment, however the idea of my original post was to alert people to the possibility that their "new" S2000 should be checked if they felt that it was tail happy. I thought that too many drivers were looping their cars. That is if they are using their brains not their feet while cornering at speed.

So FSures, what you're saying is that Honda aligns them funny coming out of the factory. Maybe it's time for me to go visit Darin.

It couldn't hurt. I don't know that they all come goofy from the factory but we've certainly had a decent number of reports over the last couple of years where the alignment was off spec significantly.

MarkS2K, I'm saying that an ounce of prevention is better that a trip to the body shop. A GOOD alignment shop will also be able to taylor the car alignment to fit your driving style. What Honda considers a good feel may be much different to what you consider a good feel.
