Almost ate it today...
I've gotten the rear lose in a hard 1-2 shift - by doing what you mentioned...a little too much gas between gears and the wheel being slightly (very slightly) turned.
I take full responsiblity for what happened this morning, but boy did it catch me by surprise. I know there was no danger of overreving so if that was concern with regards to my gearbox, I'm sure it's fine. All I'll do is go easy on the shifting from now on, when the road's wet that is...

Rainy morning. 5th gear, doing around 42 mph, foot off the gas as I'm about 50 yards from a spot of traffic at a light.
I gotta guy to my left tucking in behind me at close range. I'm irritated by him and watching him...have
been for the last 5 minutes. I downshift into 2nd instead of the intended 4th. It induced a nasty
spin. I can't believe the moron behind me didn't hit me as I spun right it front of him. I ended up doing a
full 360 at around 35 mph. I just happened to get onto the portion of the road that opens up very wide.
Had I not been there, it woulda been ugly.

speaking of spinning out...
i actually spun out in my 2 week old S last week on a 2 lane 2 way street.. i was cruising with my friend and we just went at it for one light since the street was deserted with no cars in sight of either direction. so after i punched it in 1st gear to 9krpm, i shifted to 2nd but i think i revved it while shifting cuz i got a lil excited and plus i think for that second my wheel wasnt 100% straight so when i got into 2nd gear, i lost control and spun out in a 180. thank god i did not slam into a parked car or anything or anyone out there.. i thank god for that and really learned my lesson not to do any stupid things like that again...
and about the car not starting after u spin out.. i think its a safety mechanism built into our car that prevents us from immediately starting again right after... it took me about 30 seconds before my car would start. but i am not sure about this.. someone with more knowledge would provide insight on this.
drive safe everyone.. our cars don't need this kind of treatment!!

...Even if you don't rev in-between the shift you can still lose traction.
It's a shock to the driveline. Try going WOT in 1st shift to 2nd when your tires are cold, you'll slide a bit. It's a shock to the drivetrain and you don't have all of the grip you normally would had the roads been dry (or your tires warm.)

The guy that was riding my rear bumper intentionally is a moron. You can join his ranks. I made a mistake and admitted to it.

Yea but do you understand what your mistake was? I'll give you a hint it wasn't the mis-shift. The problem was you let the guy tailgating you make you angry. Because you were a angry, you tried to gun it and you were careless with shifting and mishifted in bad road conditions causing the spin. If you hadn't been angry you wouldn't have spun. Yea it sucks to deal with the idiots on the road but if you let someone else make you angry it's going to get you in a serious accident one day. You had a really close call, be glad that's all that it was and use it as a lesson to try to not let people piss you off.
Aerostar POS is probably thinking: "Ha ha POS Honda spinning out in the rain..."
S2000 is very sensitive in the rain. It doesn't like being driven in any way that upsets the weight balance of the car. Shifting gears at high rpm, throttle lift off, etc.
We'll see a lot more spin out stories as more new owners and new RWD / manual tranny drivers learn on cold, wet streets with summer tires.
jds, you were a man and admitted your technical error.
That is
Next step is to let the animosity for the Aerostar go... it really didn't have anything to do with him... it was your emotional reaction to his driving.
Not to say it doesn't peeve me when people drive like idiots... I just figure I won't give them the satisfaction of watching ME drive like an idiot.
