Default Almost Curbed My S2000!

I was coming home from atco about 30 minutes ago and came to an empty intersection so i swung to the right a little and then yanked it left (very bad idea) then it went to the left, then the right then the left again> I seen the curb coming so i got on the brakes... and the front left just missed the curb by litterally like 6 inches. I was about to shit myself. I felt so lucky so i just started my car up and got the hell out of there.

I think i should go auto corssing with my car so i can fully get a feel for and and try to predict it the best i can.

How has the auto x improved everyone else driving???

Best thing to do in this situation is to ease the throttle in quickly. If you lift your foot off the throttle quickly or brake, you make it worse. The usual result of doing this is a nice rebound and a swing back around in snap oversteer heaven. Yeah, it takes a lot of practice. Contact your local SCCA, Porsche Club, or BMW Club about High Performance Car Control Clinics. This is the best way to learn how to deal with a track-tuned car.

i know its not the first thing most people think of... but press the gas. while turning a corner in a rear wheel drive car you never want to be braking or changing gears in the corner... you want to have your foot on the throttle!

Autox has helped tremendously in my driving. This is my first manual and my first rear wheel drive car. And before i went to the local autox's i was sliding and spinning once or twice witch was enough to make me learn how to drive. I definatly would recomendan autox or 2 for ya.

You will only get better and safer when you learn that being smooth is faster, safer and allows you to more easily recover when you do go past the limit. When you start "swing and yanking" you are just begging for something bad to happen.

If you do go to an autocross, try to find one that is a smaller local event. Sometimes, they will keep the course set up for a few hours after the event is over and do "fun runs" for practice. Do a slow lap and concentrate on being SMOOTH(no jerking of the wheel, stabbing of the breaks or sudden stomps on the accelerator). Then, steadily increase your speed while you concentrate on being smooth. You will be amazed that you feel slower when you are smooth but you actually go faster.

Driving is like anything else, practice makes you better. Practicing at the limit on the street is stupid and dangerous so autoX and HPDE are the way to go. They will improve your driving skill tremendously. Everyone thinks they are good drivers but if they compete in autoX/track they discover what it really means to be a good driver. Whole different world BUT directly applicable to daily driving. The more I compete in autoX/track, the slower and more carefully I drive on the street. Seriously.
