Default Almost time for new rear tires

Like everybody else, my rears are wearing much faster than the front. I was going to just replace the rears (it looks like I could go through two sets of rears with one set of fronts) but then there were all of the discussions about heat cycling.

What was the final conclusion to the "heat cycling" theory? Any truth behind it? Should I just get four new tires instead?

I'd hate for the front end to keep breaking loose if this theory is true. I also hate the though to throwing out two tires that look perfectly good.

All I can do is tell you my experience.

I replaced my rears at about 12,000 miles and left the front ones go since they were still in great shape. I now have 21,000 miles, and will probably be replacing the front and rears in another few thousand miles.

I have not noticed the front end doing anything wierd, or breaking loose since I replaced the rears.

Hope this is of help.

I've had the exact same experience as Lovetodrive2000. I just replaced my fronts for the 1st time and my rears for the second time @ 28,000 with no problems with the fronts.

Just get the rears only. Unless you are really agressive and on a track alot, the fronts will likely last twice the life of the rears. My experience is almost the same as above...12k on rears, now at 21k and close to time for new full set.

handling was fine with new rears and original fronts. Ok, better than fine...it was a blast. Hope that helps!

At 15K my rears were all but gone, so I put a set of Michelin Pilot Sports on the rear. Now, at 21K, the fronts still have adequate tread and the rears are wearing well. I do not track the car or autocross; your mileage may vary, etc.

Where does your mileage stand at this point.

I drive my car at least 25 days a month down Paterson Pass road and all its corners. I currently have 9878 miles on mine and Tracy Honda said I have about 50% ware so far on the rears.

How do you people get so many miles out of your S02's.

I replaced my rear tires at 8000, and I am about to replace all four tires (they are ordered, and will be here shortly) at 15,500 miles.

Am I reading correctly that some of you are getting 15k on the rears and twice that on the fronts .

The only difference I can see is NO drag racing/dropping the clutch.
I drive much different in this car than any other car I own. I take windy roads over the freeway no matter how much time it adds to the drive. I love to corner in this car and corner fast and hard.

Hmmmmm I've dropped the clutch a few times (but wouldn't consider myself a drag racer), and I'm ready for new rears at 8500 miles.
