Default Alternative to toda header for hondata reflash

K so here's the deal. I wanna get the hondata for my '06 but I want the "header reflash".. So I need to buy a test pipe and a header. Problem is, I dont wanna spend $1000 on metal tubings so the toda, mugen, J's and all those high end ones are out.. doesn't matter for me cause Im not a JDM whore.. I had the OBX headers and Y-pipe on my IS300 and I personally loved them.. They were just right, didnt lose much on the low end and gained a lot in the mid-high end. So my question is, does anyone have any experience with the OBX on their S2K or am I gonna have to be the guinie pig? Also are most headers designed the same or close to the same for the s2k? Or is there a big difference between them all.

Thanks,
Edmond

i think the quality of the OBX is not the same as the others. Another thing you want to question is the pipe sizes and the transitions of the 4-2-1 sections. The stock header is actually a very very good design, it's just that the pipe sections are smaller than Today, J's, Amuse etc...

So if you can find out what the OBX runner sizes are and if they are larger than OEM then you will have an advantage, the pipe length and the bends are also questionable. The other Manufacturers spend the time to test the header to get certain results.

If you ask me i would buy the Ricks header since it's a copy of the mugen. It's not as cheap as the OBX but at least you know it's a second grade mugen copy.

I my self have the Amuse header and love it!

I agree. I would buy the Rick's header as well. It has been proven to provide some gains and I doubt that you could find anyone of this forum who has an OBX header that can also prove gains. Splurge once, life is short.

I have splurged all my money on my suspension and rims.. plus id rather save up for a S/C than waste my money on a header..

I cant find the piping size on the OBX..

Where's the cheapest place to buy the ricks header from? Thanks a lot

Check out the topspeed s2000 header: http://topspeedauto.com/ProductCart/pc/vie...&idproduct=1620
It's relatively inexpensive and looks pretty good (quality wise)

Also, remember... it's not the really the size of the pipes that matter a whole lot... it matters, but what's more important is the R&D done on the length of each pipe coming from the cylinder. Straight pipes are not always the best idea, since the cylinders don't fire at the same time. The best headers have the best scavenging effect.

Thanks a lot luke530... so are you saying the top speed is a good choice for a header? the OBX looks pretty much identical to that.. I just want any header basically to remove the cats so that I can get the hondata reflash

You don't need a header to remove the cat... just buy a test pipe $100 and a fouler for your o2 sensor.

as far as the topspeed header, I have not heard much about it, but the company seems very legit, and I would definately go with them over OBX.

Most headers just save weight and add slight power that some say you notice (because they spent $1000+ and want to notice it)... but nobody will really notice a 2-3 horsepower gain.

Anyways, Intake/Header/Test Pipe/Exhaust and a good tune will make a noticable difference (as much as 15 horsepower)
