Alternative tonneau cover
Well, that seems like pretty positive feedback, all in all. The guy whose car it was is selling them, but (alas) not in carbon fiber
.
He wants $800 Canadian for them primed, $900 Canadian painted. That works out to about $640 - $720 US. Haven't heard back on shipping, customs, etc., waiting to find that stuff out before I actually put any money on it.
I think the badge is probably his company's name- I have a closeup of it, but it's on my wife's camera (didn't want to take the big one to Crescent street that night). It would be nice if you could get one that had an "S" like Rick's badges.
I don't know about the dash.

What I'd like is a cloth (or vinyl, like the soft top) one that would fold up into a small, neat bundle to fit in the trunk without taking up too much space.

It looks nice, and I think the CF would look good with Silverstone (I too saw that car in Montreal on Crescent street, and thought it looked nice). I thik the drawback would be always having to leave the top down, as those CF tonneau covers don't fit in the cabin or the trunk.
That said for non-carbon fiber that is ridiculously over-priced. I'd also be willing to bet that the guy who's offering to sell them to you doesn't in fact make them. He probably just offering to sell it to you(with a nutty markup)

This German company sells something foldable and made out of the same material as the top.

Hey guys-
I am currently talking with Rick from Ricks2k.com
I pointed this lack of an accessory to him, he is getting a car into a fabricator next week for test fitting. It may be a while until production runs are ready to be shipped. He is looking to produce a hard tonneau similar to the one that Racing Beat makes for the Miata. It will be rather streamlined (no un-needed humps or steps) and will follow close to the same lines as the original soft boot (if not flatter). The goal is to make this product to it locks together in 3-sections (at 1/3 and 2/3 the width of the car) so the unit can be broken down and stored in the trunk in case of foul weather. To see what I suggested, and what Rick is aiming for, please visit this site:
http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmiata.htm
Select "Body Components" under the pull down menu on the left
Select "Streamline Deck Cover 99-03"
This is what is trying to be made. It will also be able to be painted to match the exterior color of the car.
Rick is keeping me updated and I will in turn update this forum. It may be a while, though, production processes are not overnight.
Thanks
John

I think it looks plain on the Miata because the damn deck is HUGE. The deck for the S2000 is significantly shorter. The S2000 also has different lines (more of a wedge shape than a flat oval). i think it would look good. Think more like 350Z.

$700us painted is good....the fitment on them looks awesome...shipping and customs will probably be a killer...my guess for BOTH is $300
