Default Am I missing something here?

Well it's that time to buy a new S2000. Been looking forward to this for a while. Let me run down the price figures and see if I'm missing something. Thanks for any feedback.

MSRP 34250
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Invoice 31009

Destination
Charge 595

Dealer Cost 31604

Minus Marketing Support from Honda to dealers from 9/5/07 to 10/1/07 of

$2000
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dealer Cost $29604

What's a fair profit for a dealer on this car?

Dealer looks to make between $500 - $1000. Anything over that is icing on the cake.

Dealer Cost $29604......I would offer $30K + Tax and license.

I agree, dealers all know they don't make a ton on new cars. Used markup is MUCH better. You can usually talk them to around $500-750 markup if you're lucky. Salesmen are making very little commission on new vehicles.

My happy range is 3-4% profit on dealer invoice - they get a Honda hold back of about 3% so the two are about a 6-7% total profit. Add tax, lic, and delivery fee and you have a price of around 31380.24 plus TT&L. Anything less is a bonus for you!

There's no such thing as a "fair profit". There's only a range between the top of what you are willing to pay and the bottom of what they are willing to accept. Anywhere in that range is a price that will work for both of you.

I'm not suggesting that you give away thousands of dollars unneccesarily, but three years from now if you are still obsessing over "those guys made me pay $275 more than was fair" then you have psychological issues.
