Default Are American and Australian S2000 parts the same?

Hi guys,

I am interested to fidn out if anybody knows which parts of our beloved car are shared with the Australian model? I am especially interested in clutch, soft top cloth, alarm and the CD player (comes standard in the USA, but in Australia there is a tape in the dash and CD changer in the trunk). I have an S2000 in Sydney, but I am in USA in July and since the price is better in USA I will buy them, unless somebody tells me they are incompatible. The car I have in mind is an Australian MY 2000.

Cheers,
Dobrin

P.S. I posted the same question in the Australia/New Zealand forum, but it doesnt' attract as much attention as here.

I honestly don't know but do have a couple of questions.

1) does your current soft-top have a plastic window? do you want to replace with a like plastic window or do a conversion to glass? If you want to convert, you may need a wiring harness for the rear-defrost.

2) are you looking for the in-dash head unit with the single cd player (am/fm/cd) from a usdm MY00 --- no clock? The head-unit changed in MY01+, if I recall correctly.

I don't know if part numbers are global for Honda. Perhaps you could find the part number from your local dealer and post-up for comparison purposes.

Lastly, If you know where your staying in the US, I would use one of the many on-line parts companies and order the parts in advance and have them shipped to your US location.

the australian ap1 is a right hand drive version of the us left hand drive ap1 (2000-2003)
so most parts not related to which side of the car you drive (pedals, bake lines, dash etc) should be the same

from your list
softt top should be the same, however if i were you i would by an new us glass window soft top
-clutch wear parts (flywheel, pressure pate should be the same), however clutch fork master cylinder pedals etc could be different based on right hand drive
-cd player, my guess is that an 00-03 us unit would work, but that i a guess, but the us 00-03 cd headunits are worth only about 50.00 us, so you arent risking much and if you post a picture of the back of your radio, (showing he connectors) this doesn't need to be a guess, but i am confident that it would work.

please let us know what you end up doing and how this works.

i have experience in this area, I have made a us nsx into a nsx-r (adding the right hand drive nsx-r japan pedals into a left hand drive nsx as an example (i converted everything on my us na2 gpw nsx to japanese na2 nsx-r

i also have an 2008 s2000 that i have added a uk ultimate edition cluster into (9k rpm with mph readout (japanese is 8K rpm for my year and europe is 9k but kph only) this dash was added to work with my amuse exhaust and asm header and ecu reflash so i could see my 8600 rpm rev limit

the point to the above is mixing different market parts on hondas can be fun and educational
best of luck
tom

I would look to buy a Modifry kit and get a better aftermarket head unit rather than find a factory unit, which will need a radio code as well. The Modifry wiring will allow you to keep the dash radio controls and the wiring should be the same.

Clutch - Same, no difference whatsoever.

Soft Top Cloth - Same, as well. If you want a replacement soft top because yours has torn or the rear plastic window has gone cloudy, drop me PM. I have a near new, never seen the sunlight, opened and closed less than a handful of times soft top (MY01) with the full frame assembly in storage. Save you the trouble of carrying it back from US.

Alarm - Your MY Australia delivered S2000 does not have a factory alarm setup. Only immobilizer. Why do you want a US spec alarm for?

CD Player - Sounds like you're after the US spec headunit, yet again I'm going to ask why? It's not a specially better unit or more advanced. The AM/FM frequency range may also be different rendering the radio useless in Australia.

Thanks for all replies! To answer a few questions:

1) I need the alarm, because I assumed the Australian models are pre-wired the same way as the US models are and that it would be easy to plug in an OEM alarm. So, from the answers I conclude that if I want an alarm, then I must contact my local Sydney Honda dealer, right, because I cannot simply connect a US alarm to the Australian S2000?

2) The CD player was more like an after thought, because the original CD changer doesn't want to load disks. I think I'd better go for aftermarket CD/MP3 player than buying the US unit.

3) This Modifry kit sounds interesting. Does it work with any aftermarket CD player? Where do you buy it from? Again, is it for Australian or US models?

4) My soft top has plastic window. I would love to change it to glass, but from what I read here this is a very complicated procedure and I am not confident I can do it myself. Also, there is no way I can transport the glass window from the USA.

Speaking of parts in Australia, is there any online store where I can order parts. Something like Majestic Honda in the USA (that was working until recently)?

Thanks again,
Dobrin

1 - No, I don't believe the Australian delivered S2000s are prewired for a "Honda factory alarm", especially not the MY99-01s anyway. I've pretty much pulled the car apart and found no trace of such wiring in place. Australian spec S2000s are closer spec to Japanese S2000s, with minimal accessories (no immobilizer in Japan, no cruise control).

The Honda factory alarm could be bought as an option when buying the car new from the dealership, but I'm almost certain there are not many around with such an option. Seriously, if you want a proper alarm, technology would have evolved over the last 10 years, you're better off picking something off the shelf instead.

2 - You might be able to find another CD stacker from a Honda wrecker (Honbits or Hontoys), can't promise you'll come up with anything. That'd be your easiest way to restore your CD function. Otherwise, like above, go with an aftermarket option, get a brand new headunit with iPod aux, MP3, WMA, CD etc instead. The factory Honda headunit is seriously ancient.

3 - The modifry headunit kit is designed to maintain the factory radio controls above the start button. If you're buying an aftermarket headunit, check to see if that model is compatible with his product.

4 - Sorry, no such online stores like the US. We're still fairly ancient downunder.
